How do you open?

Asked by: Clarence
Remove them from the plastic and drop where you need them. I like to stir up the ants and drop them in the swarm. They go in in numbers and seem to die quicker.

We had carpenter ants setting up shop behind the soffit on one side of our house. We purchased the bait stakes a week ago along with the Amdro Ant Block granules. The stakes went directly against the foundation, pushed down to the level of the mulch, and the granules we used out to about 18 inches. Took about 5 days to get a complete kill. Carpenter ant feeding habits can be finicky, and using multiple kinds of bait can help expedite things. The next step up from Amdro products are professional baits from a pest control supply company; try Amdro's line first, they're certainly cost effect and worked well for us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Effective... and a good value I have a wooden shed in the backyard and about 10 years ago it was attacked by carpenter ants. After replacing parts of the wall and roof, I began placing ant baits around the perimeter every year and haven't had a problem since. These baits work as well as any other that I've used and are cheaper than most. I've also used them successfully when our cherry tree was similarly attacked. I also like that the stakes can be used to keep the bait vertical so that the rain doesn't get into them. The only think that I don't like is that the baits are loose in the box, so I keep the unused ones in a ziploc.

However, this year we had so much rain I don't know if the spikes were washed out.. If that is the case I'll purchase more to replace those that were washout by the rain. I wouldn't change the product in any way. Works. Bill C

The big thing is resisting killing the ants when you see them. They must take the bait back to the nest to be effective. It's been three weeks and I have not seen a single ant.

The poison used "Hydramethylnon " is more stable in outdoor conditions but after 48 hours of basically being in the ant pile, with a few ants "tasting" the bait the colony is alive and strong. These are black ants that I have problems with and possibly a breed of carpenter ant. I'm not an ant expert. From no on I will stick with a version of "Sodium Tetraborate " as although you have to keep it fresh and is more work over 24 hours to keep it a viable bait - IT WORKS!

The Amdro product worked very well. It may be that this product is better tailored to my particular ant population (these were very tiny ants inhabiting my kitchen). Would have been 5 stars except that one out of the 3 packets I set up leaked a little of its sticky contents - might've been operator error. Small price to pay for a good job.
