Customer Questions & Answers

Can this product be used on pressure treated deck wood.

Wood decks
Asked by: Keith
I used a Behr 10 year paint from Home Depot on my deck. I only waited about 8 months for the wood to cure, maybe too early when I painted it. It is Gray and I have sanded and pressure washed a lot of the paint off. Wherever there is pant I have Black Mold growing. Do I have to sand it all down to redo it with Gator Grip? The deck has now been there for 2 years and is a real eye sore!!!

Will the product adhere to vinyl?

I'm looking for an anti-skid product to overcoat the vinyl-clad wooden deck around my above-ground pool. The vinyl is peeling, so I was planning to remove as much of the vinyl as possible, then sand it and cover it with a non-skid product. So it would have to adhere to both vinyl and wood. My experience with combination primer/paint products has not been great - they adhere decently to perfect surfaces, but less perfect surfaces require good primers to stick. Any thoughts? Can you think of a better solution? For example marine or epoxy paints? Thanks!

The Anvil Gator Grip we purchased 3 years ago does not state it can be used on vinyl, however Anvil has changed their Gator Grip formula as our Gator Grip did not contain the Bonding Primer we had to purchase this separately and apply the primer first then apply the Gator Grip. I see Anvil now offers a product called Deck A New and I believe I read this product can be used on composite decking. You can also go to Anvil website and either email them or call them to find out for sure, then order or buy at Home Depot. Hope this helps, Good Luck!!

This is not an in store item so it must be ordered from the manufacturer (which took too long). This was for a rooftop deck that I was building for a customer. Home Depot's Q&A says that it can be used on wood so I decided on this product- having done some research. I was using it on new 3/4" marine grade plywood. First off, this stuff is THIN, much like interior wall paint with a little grit in it. The grit is very small and not much of it. I thought it would be thick with a lot of solids (its not) Next, I made sure not to damage any of the wood, painted it inside my shop at 68 degrees (3 coats) and even put fans on it to help the cure process. I let it cure for 2 days in the shop. I installed it and made sure not to damage any of the coating. 1 week later and it is failing miserably!!!! This stuff is not waterproof, the wood strands are lifting and it is apparent that water is soaking in.The paint is already peeling off in places exposing bare wood. As if that's not bad enough, you can rub it with bare fingers and it comes right off! I've got $1000 of marine plywood at stake, $1000 in labor and an irate customer that wants to know why this "miracle" paint is washing off.. Thanks, Anvil

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Could not use BUT Great Product I bought this and used just a touch on a test space. When it dried it was much lighter than I thought. Was hoping it would match my slate. HOWEVER, the product itself was easy to apply, dried quickly and does have a grit to it. I almost took it back (not knowing if I could get a refund or not) but decided to keep it after all as I may find something else to use it on in the future.
