It's the size of the orifice in the nozzle. The size of the orifice should be matched to the pressure and flow rate of your washer. A smaller orifice will cause the pressure to get higher but the flow go down. If you go too small then the pressure will get too high and the unloader valve will kick in. If you go to big the pressure will not get up to the desired value and you won't get the spray pattern Read More
It's the size of the orifice in the nozzle. The size of the orifice should be matched to the pressure and flow rate of your washer. A smaller orifice will cause the pressure to get higher but the flow go down. If you go too small then the pressure will get too high and the unloader valve will kick in. If you go to big the pressure will not get up to the desired value and you won't get the spray pattern and cleaning you want.
For example, the 3.0 nozzles are rated at 3.0 gallons/min at 4000psi. The 4.0 nozzles would be rated at 4.0 gallons/min at 4000psi. However, the 3.0 with 2500psi only gives 2.17 gallons/min. That's actually pretty close to a lot of the washers out there. A complete table can be found here:
