The bold item name says it is a "3 ft awning", however in the specifications section of this same item it says that the width is 40.5" (another place in the specs it says 40.5" is the length...which is it?). Just trying to make sure I know the exact width of this awning. Maybe this means it will be an acceptable awning for a 3 ft opening such as a door or a window (and the awning is 40.5" wide true measurement to span the 3 ft opening?). Can you please clarify the exact width of the item? Also one place it says that the depth is 24" and another place in the specs it says the width is 24". Which is it? Depth? or Width? Also, can it be used for a door? or only windows? Thank you.

Answer:
Awning Length:
Yes 3ft actually stands for the window size...because most windows come in standard sizes.
But in order to mount outside the window opening, they have added 4.5" (allowing for 2.25" on each side of the opening). So it is correct as written in the specifications (36" + 4.5"..or 40.5").
Awning Depth/Width/Projection:

Depth and width are synonymous when it comes to stationary awnings on this website.
Application (window or door?):
You may mount this awning where you like but keep af few things in mind:
1. A 24" projection will not protect you from the rain very well.
2. If your door opens out, you will have to mount the awning high enough above the door so that it doesn't hit the awning when it opens.
3. If your door opens in, you will have to mount it high enough to keep a tall person from hitting their head.
4. If you have a low roof line, you may be better off ordering a "low-eave entry awning". This will give you enough clearance in both directions.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Looks good takes time to install It took me twice as long to install the first awning because I had to use my own hardware and the directions for installation were difficult to understand. But once I figured out my own system, the rest of the awnings went up fairly quickly. If you are one who must have directions to install things, then go with a different manufactorer. Not the highest quality for the cost due to the fact that the canvas is velcroed in instead of sewn. May 22, 2012
