Product Overview

Active Ventilation Products Aura Ventilator Retrofit product line is designed to fit over a turbine ventilator roof base. It has a flared adapter that easily fits over an existing roof mounted metal base. The Aura Ventilator Retrofit has a patented engineered design to create CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of air flow with no moving parts. Model AV-12-RF has a 12 in. Dia throat opening and will produce 310 CFM at 11 mph with no moving parts. It is an excellent choice to exhaust attic heat in the summer and moisture in the winter. The Aura Ventilator Retrofit product line is made of durable rust free aluminum and has 2 manufactured components: The vent head and adapter. The vent head’s patented design has three concentric cylinders with slotted vertical louvers. When air moves against the louvers of the outer and middle cylinders it is directed to create a circular airflow while spinning against the inner louver section. This air movement creates a Venturi effect which produces a vacuum or negative pressure to pull air from within the attic space. The vent has a flat one piece spun cap that prevents rain and snow from entering the vent verses the turbine vent which is open to the sky and allows rain water to enter in “no wind” conditions.

  • Easy to install
  • Noiseless, does not require electricity to exhaust air from attics spaces
  • Leveling is not required, the aura ventilator retrofit can be installed parallel to the roof
  • Built-in inner vertical louvers has an 1/8 in. opening between the louvers to keep out insects, birds and squirrels from entering the vent while allowing optimal air flow and no maintenance
  • Will reduce attic temperatures in the summer and will keep the attic dry and cool in the winter to preserve attic insulation and prevent ice dams
  • Round aerodynamic design can with stand harsh weather and wind forces of up to 200 mph
  • Mill finish aluminum color that will continually have a long lasting clean appearance
  • Net free air space: 113 sq. in.
  • Ventilation rule 1:300 (1 per sq. ft. of attic space): 1 vent per 450 sq. ft. of attic space
  • Helps to reduce energy costs
  • 5-year warranty

will this work sitting on a slanted roof or does it have to be in a verticle position?

Would like information before buying. Am a retired ME engineer

The man that put my new roof on installed it on my slanted roof. No issues at all. I like it!

Will bugs get in? I think the turbine would deter them from landing and entering? Trying to decide.

Asked by: Bd
Small bugs can get in, but the fins are very close together. Gap estimated at 1/8 inch. No different from spinning turbine when there is no wind (bugs can get in)

Are these turbines less susceptible to wind damage than the moving kind?

I am just wondering if since these do not move would they withstand storm winds better?
Asked by: shadow83
Yes. The lack of movement will greatly reduce chance of wind damage.

We had an very old turbine that was squeaking badly and disrupting our sleep. This unit, although it does not move quite as much air as the spinning types, is guaranteed to be silent through nature of its design. Quality of construction was very good, and gauge of material seemed more than adequate. Installation was not as easy as I thought, mostly because I did not have the crimping type pliers to shrink the OD of the column to fit the ID of the new turbine. Strongly recommend that 3 or 5 jaw crimping pliers be purchased for this type of installation. After installation, absolutely no noise, other than the relaxing sound of raindrops hitting the upper housing. Very happy with the cost vs performance of this unit. Installed one month ago. Long term durability is unknown, but aluminum should last for 20-30 years easy. Chose this unit if zero noise is more important than maximum airflow. Recommended.

The collar was a tight fit, I had to curve the edge of the base inward so I could fit the collar of the turbine in, it could have been an 1/8" bigger for a better fit, other wise nice product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good upgrade to the old fashioned wind turbine vents! I had a leak in my roof and spend a few storms checking the roof thinking it was around a pipe or the dish satellite dish. After sealing up everything I could think of, I determined that it had to be the wind turbine vents on my roof. When it rained hard, the rain would just pout in as they were open to the sky. The new replacement vents are not open to the sky and were an easy to retrofit. They are very good looking and well made. Last hard rain shows that they fixed the problem I was having with the wind turbine vvents. Also noticed that the venturi effect of these vents really work. Tested the temp of the attic and even used a little smoke to show the effect as the hot air left the attic via the vents.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sure beats the whirlybird with brgs going bad For the negative customers that returned them for the whirlybirds that claim to have perminate lubed roller bearings, they can and do puke out the bearings and fail. Then they squeel and squeak and make a horrible noise heard all over the neighborhood. Also to the ones that say they don't move air at all, neither do the whirly birds when their isn't a breeze. I tried the whirlybird and they aren't the same as the ones that lasted a lifetime, not to mention the rain getting thru the vanes when they aren't spinning
