Product Overview

Active Ventilation Products solar powered attic fan product line, the Round Back Solar Fan, is excellent at exhausting attic spaces for shingled roofs. The solar panel provides energy to the fan on sunny days to increase the vent's CFM over and beyond a standard non-motorized static vent. The Round Back Solar Fan is made of rust free aluminum, 8 in. Dia exhaust fan with a 2 in. collar height and 13 in. x 13 in. square flange. Its low profile design looks pleasing on shingled roofs. The Round Back Solar Fan has a solid vent cap with an inner vertical louver cylinder to keep out insects, birds, and animals. The inner vertical louver allows air to exhaust without resistance. Model RBSF-8-BR is powder coated with an electrostatic charge in brown finish. The powder coating finish adheres extremely well and is more difficult to remove than wet paint which adds to the vents durability and long lasting clean appearance.

  • Excellent choice to removing radiant heat from attic spaces
  • Brown powder coating finish is significantly greater at resisting scratching, chipping, and oxidation
  • Has a 5 Watt high efficiency solar panel
  • Solar panel: 5 Watt, 12-Volt
  • Ventilation rule 1:300, application per sq. ft.: 200 sq. ft.

  • Inner cylinder louver design does not allow accumulation of particle buildup as found in using an insect screen
  • 1/8th in. opening between the louver blades and all aluminum ("noncombustible") material meets the requirements of California building code 706A.2 Vents to resist the intrusion of burning embers and flame through ventilation openings

Answer:
Normally, you would not want an open vent from the inside of your house to the outside.
It would be suitable for a cabin or shed.

I have whirly birds installed and i'm thinking about swapping them all out cause they are squeaking. I still want better ventilation when the sun is out. 2000 square foot house with 24 soffit vents and 7 whirly birds.

Answer:
The fan is very small.
So, it is better than a passive vent.
Much worse than an AC fan.
I don't know how it would compare to a turbine vent.

Answer:
Yes it will help. Just not as much as some people hope for when they see it rated at 365 cfm. This Attic vent has a fan that is used in computer cases so you know it is small.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 16 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Fan stopped working three years after purchase Installed four of these and all fans failed within 3 years of installation. Now going back to manufacturer to see if they'll cover the fan failure. They worked fine, even on cloudy days, when the fans were operational and lowered my attic temps 6F, so they do work. Price is now $10 higher than when I bought mine. Previous reviewer questioned the fan's durability as he labeled it a "PC fan", guess he was right. July 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very light duty Unit looks nice and arrives well packed. Does not contain a thermostat. So, it will run even in the winter. The fan is a standard size 120mm computer fan. I would not expect a good lifetime with heavy continuous use in a harsh environment. Normally these are rated at 60-70 cfm. So, the 365 cfm rating is a different standard or an exaggeration. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Perfect Put on roof of 10' × 10' chicken coop to remove excess heat build up, works perfect August 2, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Save your money.. Doesn't work properly Only runs about 5 hours during the day. The sun has to be straight above unit in order to work. The clouds makes it stop also. June 28, 2016

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good price. Woks well. The only issue is that as soon as there is cloud cover it stops working. Wish it had a small battery back up. August 11, 2015
