Product Overview

Active Ventilation Products solar powered attic fan product line, the Round Back Solar Fan, is excellent at exhausting attic spaces for shingled roofs. The solar panel provides energy to the fan on sunny days to increase the vent’s CFM over and beyond a standard non-motorized static vent. The Round Back Solar Fan is made of rust free aluminum, 8 in. Dia exhaust fan with a 2 in. collar height and 13 in. x 13 in. square flange. Its low profile design looks pleasing on shingled roofs. The Round Back Solar Fan has a solid vent cap with an inner vertical louver cylinder to keep out insects, birds, and animals. The inner vertical louver allows air to exhaust without resistance.

  • Excellent choice to removing radiant heat from attic spaces
  • Mill finish aluminum will continually have a long lasting clean appearance
  • Solar panel: 5 Watt, 12-Volt
  • Ventilation rule 1:300, application per sq. ft.: 200 sq. ft.
  • Net free air space: 50 sq. in.
  • 2 in. clearance between bottom of vent cap and flange
  • Built-in inner vertical louver cylinder has a 1/8 in. opening between louver blades that will keep out insects, birds, and animals while allowing air to move through the vent without resistance
  • 1/8th in. opening between the louver blades and all aluminum (“noncombustible”) material meets the requirements of California building code 706A.2 Vents to resist the intrusion of burning embers and flame through ventilation openings
  • 365 CFM at 0.1 SP
  • Helps to reduce energy costs

Does this fan have a tempature switch?

Does this fan have a tempature switch to allow it to not run when the attic space is cooler as in winter time?
Asked by: Slim
No. If it's got sun, it's on.

Can the solar panel be disconnected/unbolted from the rest of the unit?

I'm looking for a solar-powered vent to be mounted above a door. I would disconnect the panel and add a length of wire in order to be able to orient the panel properly towards the sun. Is this feasible?

Can this fan be mounted on a vertical surface?

I'm looking for a solar-powered vent to be mounted above a door. Will the fan still run and vent well in a vertical installation?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Deceptive ad. There is no way the little fan on this pulls the cfm claimed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from could be great but no overall unit is o k in its construction , but solar cell is really lacking power to motor ratio. the shadow of even a finger takes the motor to 50% speed

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product! Simple and quiet. Great price. I'm using 2 in a 900 sq ft gable attic space to keep the a/c unit running more efficiently. Looks good against a metal roof. Free shipping!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 5 watt solar powered ventilator For the price is a good vent... I had 3 installed and the attic is much much cooler, it made a difference.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from questionable claims Product is described as 8 inch. The diameter of the main tube is indeed 8 inches. However, the fan inside is barely 4 inches. Claim is that it moves 365 cfm. I doubt this. If my math and physical science serve me correctly the exhaust velocity of the fan should be approx. 70 fps. I really do not think it is doing that. Fan does work well though within its limitations. About 2:00 PM in central Texas the thing is really ginnin'...just doesn't seem to be quite enough for my 364 cubic foot greenhouse. I would rate its performance as marginal. It seems that most of the solar fans from Active are either a single or clusters of small appliance fans. Honestly though, it was the only solar powered ventilator I could find to accommodate the design of my conical roof on my greenhouse.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Now that was interesting When the sun is out and the solar panel gets full light, it runs fine. But on a cloudy day, it doesn't get enough power struggles and squeaks. The service I received from home depot was excellent but the product wasn't up to par. I don't want to oil it to prevent the squeak because the air it is sucking out is full of dust and it would only take a short time before all that dust stuck to the oil and clog the whole thing up. Not a good buy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good basic solar fan Works as advertised. Wish the fan was bigger and stronger.
