Product Overview

Active Ventilation Products solar powered attic fan product line, the Round Back Solar Fan, is excellent at exhausting attic spaces for shingled roofs. The solar panel provides energy to the fan on sunny days to increase the vent’s CFM over and beyond a standard non-motorized static vent. The Round Back Solar Fan is made of rust free aluminum, 8 in. Dia exhaust fan with a 2 in. collar height and 13 in. x 13 in. square flange. Its low profile design looks pleasing on shingled roofs. The Round Back Solar Fan has a solid vent cap with an inner vertical louver cylinder to keep out insects, birds, and animals. The inner vertical louver allows air to exhaust without resistance. Model RBSF-8-WT is powder coated with an electrostatic charge in white finish. The powder coating finish adheres extremely well and is more difficult to remove than wet paint which adds to the vents durability and long lasting clean appearance.

  • Excellent choice to removing radiant heat from attic spaces
  • White powder coating finish is significantly greater at resisting scratching, chipping, and oxidation
  • Solar panel: 5 Watt, 12-Volt
  • Ventilation rule 1:300, application per sq. ft.: 200 sq. ft.
  • Net free air space: 50 sq. in.
  • 2 in. clearance between bottom of vent cap and flange
  • Built-in inner vertical louver cylinder has a 1/8 in. opening between louver blades that will keep out insects, birds, and animals while allowing air to move through the vent without resistance
  • Inner cylinder louver design does not allow accumulation of particle buildup as found in using an insect screen
  • 1/8th in. opening between the louver blades and all aluminum (“noncombustible”) material meets the requirements of California building code 706A.2 Vents to resist the intrusion of burning embers and flame through ventilation openings
  • 365 CFM at 0.1 SP
  • Helps to reduce energy costs

Answer:
yes, but the amount of work and extra materials would depend on the type of roof. also a green house usually keeps the heat in, not fan it out.

Answer:
you should not see it from inside a living space such as a living room or bed room. it should be mounted to a roof top, above roof or on top of garage or shed. you would have to void warranty and disassemble it to modify it.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 19 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Haven't installed it yet. It would help if there were instructions and warranty information. August 2, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not bad... I purchased this small solar fan to cool roof in my garage. The unit is very lightweight so there is no problem to install it. I removed existing vent and put solar on same spot. Even used same nails. As for performance of the unit: well under 80 F is doing job well, at 90 F I cannot see the effect probably to small capacity for the temperature and volume of air it needs to move. It's been only 10 days after I installed it. June 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by bang 4 buck Stop reading and buy it! Does what it says and its dead silent. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really pulls the hot air out of the attic space I had added this during a reroof of our doublewide mobile home with the Fabral metal roofing to help pull the heat out of the attic crawl space. The solar fan really pulls the hot air out of the attic space when the sun is full out. But add any clouds at all and it simply stops. I feel it would be a better buy had they added more solar cells for it to operate when the weather is "fair" or "partly cloudy. The temps can still be high during these periods. But otherwise I am happy with the purchase. July 19, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great value and performance I purchased this product to vent a chicken coup which is basically an 8'X12' shed. Installation was easy although a cut template would have been nice. Adequate flow for this application. August 6, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Weak Small, lightweight plastic fan, only slightly larger than you might find in your old desktop computer. Kind of shocking when you open the box in person, after seeing the picture online. And it is only about 1/2 of the diameter of the vent itself, so isn't capable of moving a lot of air. If you are thinking about buying this (because of the great price) be warned that you either need a very small space to vent, or a LOT of these fans, and they MUST see direct sunlight or won't work at all. It's nice that it's solar powered, but you can get "real" solar fans for attic venting, they just cost a LOT more. If you need to vent a house attic or garage, you will need to bite the bullet and spend more on a much more powerful solar fan. Or go the old fashioned (and way less expensive) route of a wired electric fan. It's also hard to imagine the tiny bearings and motor running this unit will hold up under daily use for very long. We shall see though, since the hole is already in the roof! This would be sufficient for a dog house, or a doll house, but not a large area that really needs ventilation. I added a medium sized electric fan on my small side yard sun room, because on hot days this isn't enough to do the job. October 20, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Simple, durable, affordable Simple to assemble and install with ordinary hand tools this attic vent works great.... as long as the sun shines. Like most solar powered items, this is the downfall. With no battery, it requires nearly full sun to operate. When that is fulfilled, works like a charm, and quietly too! September 1, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Should have listened to others The fan is just like a computer fan so I see no way that it would do any good. Also you can only mount it one way and that might not be great to get the most sun. All in all, a bad purchase for me. It would cost to much to return it so just a bad purchase. July 7, 2015
