Answer:
I mounted it on a very small platform on top of a 1 1/4" diameter steel conduit about 4 1/2 feet above a shrubbery bed and 2' of conduit in the ground. Keep in mind, if you're using it with the Acurite Internet Bridge, both units need to be fairly close together. If you're only using the display unit that cones with it, distance between the two, is not an issue at all.

Answer:
I mounted the outside unit on a fence not under a tree and made certain to have the top above the top of the fence. Inside I put the receiver on a table in the family room.

Answer:
We have our collector sitting on a short stone (landscaping wall block) wall. I was hoping they sold some sort of accessory for stick mounting, but I may have to make something up. I have the collector sandwiched between 2 bricks to keep it from falling over with our Kansas winds. It has some delicate workings inside the unit that I'm afraid might be damaged in a fall.

Answer:
No only the date & time of the rain event. If the unit is used with the Acurite Internet Bridge and the Acurite app, some very good graphical data is available to the user via a smartphone or an iPad. I wish Home Depot would begin selling the Acurite Internet Bridge. Their seems to be a lot of interest in this technology from online reading.
Hope this info is useful to you.

Answer:
I've only had a few minutes to play with the unit. From what I understand, it will measure rainfall for a period of up to eight hours. If it rains for more than eight hours, it will continue with that recording (if it rains for 12 hours it will keep that as one measurement/recording....and you should probably consider building a boat). If it rains for, say 3 hours, it will time out to the eight hour mark Read More

Answer:
Yes...it is in a different section of the reporting...and I never used this function because it rained almost every day where I lived anyway. So I was just interested in the amount of rain received each day. But if you need to inspect the duration of each event, YOU CAN (provided it is less than a week)...no, Noah, it won't measure for 40 days!

My major concern with this rain gauge is the way it EATS BATTERIES❗️In roughly 2 months I'm seeing a half battery icon on the display. I'm also seeing it on the Acurite app on my iPhone & iPad. In addition, the system sends an automated email warning that the rain gauge sending unit needs to have the batteries replaced. Currently I'm using the red Duracell Quantum batteries that are supposed to be the longest lasting battery available. I'm afraid this may be a design problem. I plan to call Acurite customer support and discuss the problem with them. Other than that flaw, I'm very happy with the product. Read Less

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 95 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not worth the effort Unit came without the pin needed to mount the swivel inside the exterior housing. Worked about six months and then quit. September 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent guage, although calibration was a pain. This rain guage is very accurate, it's always within 0.01" of my regular guage. I love it. I've had it for 4 months now and it's still going strong, I haven't had to change the batteries yet, but the plastic shell is beginning to turn yellow and feels a little brittle. The worst part for me was the tedious calibration process, the cup method didn't work for me, I had to wait two weeks for rain and compare it with my regular guage, it took nearly a month to properly adjust it. I would've rated it 5 stars if it came properly calibrated. August 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rain guage review This was our second Digital Rain Guage. The first one worked fine for a couple years until it quit sending a signal to the base station inside. We replaced it with this new one, which is exactly the same, at it works fine. September 13, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by want my old one back it is not easy to use and cannot figure how to clear as when I push the clear button it does not work so will have to get the directions back out - sorry September 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by so far so good I have only had it a month, so don't know about its long-term durability and reliability. Checked the calibration twice as per instructions and it was perfect. I have it 15' away in a direct line of site through a window. We have an insulate concrete (ICE block with rebar) house so any other location could have been a problem. September 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by "Christmas in July for Dad!" I finally found the product number for this particular product and although the design has changed enormously, Dad is very happy to have a working rain gauge again!! All you do is pull two small pieces out of the box, insert the batteries, put the rain gauge outside and the 'control center' inside the house and Dad has what he wants - the amount of rain you get (or do not get)! He's very happy and that makes me very happy! August 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Quality Control Issues Had this rain gauge and happily used it for 6 years (after several tries, I found one that worked even back then). Recently the case broke (my fault) and I tried to get a new one. I have recently purchased 3 online - all defective!! #1 - I did the calibration test as indicated in the manual several times. It was way off so I tried to calibrate it. The calibration screws were frozen and would not move. Returned. #2 The "clear" button was frozen in the depressed position when it was removed from the package. Therefore nothing worked. Returned. #3 - Thought 3rd would be the charm. It did not register rainfall. I don't know if the problem was the collector or the main unit. Returned. Clearly this product has had quality control issues for many years. Why have they not been addressed and why has Home Depot continued to carry it with such issues ? July 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quite satisfactory Received the rain gauge, installed it and have enjoyed being able to see how much rain we have received without having to go out and dump the gauge between rains. It seems to be pretty close to the old rain gauge that I have to dump. There is only a hundredth or two difference between them. I am well pleased with this gauge. Will know more by this time next year. July 26, 2016
