Suitability for salt water spa pools

Is this floating thermometer suitable for chlorinated salt water spa pools? Our pool normally runs at 40-41 degrees C (105 F) with a salt water chlorinator. Our last unit only lasted 3 months as I later found out through a Google search that the unit was actually unsuitable for salt water pools. I don't want to be caught twice. :) John

What is the highest temperature range
Asked by: Dishwasher
I had it in a Jacuzzi at 105 degrees F. However, both units that I purchased failed within 6 months because the sensor unit leaked. I don't think the seal can withstand hot water and it gets humidity inside. The temperature display fogs up and the electronics corrode.

After reading all the reviews and the problems, I sealed the battery cover with silicone grease. Covered all areas that may allow moisture in with silicon sealant. Well the pool display fogged up inside the unit. So I opened it up and placed it in a dehydrator overnight. No help, stilled fogged up. Well I could live with that. In indoor display is what I needed to monitor my hot tub during freezing weather. This worked OK for about a month. Then I noticed the temperature starting reading 5-6 degs below the Spa setting. Not good. SO not wanting to throw it all out, I opened the pool unit, took all the electronic and battery parts out. Had a Acu-Rite outside temp unit, installed it in the housing and putt it back in the spa. With it’s inside display in worked.

I saw this and although it was three times the price, but I indulged myself and am glad I did. Just love the large temperature reading on the floating thermometer but the real plus is the remote indoor temp display. The history is a nice feature. All in all, very happy with this item!

I bought two of these units (again after the first unit failed) and both failed within 6 months. Pool sensor leaked even after I sealed it. I used in a Jacuzzi and I don't think the sensor is made to withstand hot water even though it is advertised for that usage. Great idea, poor quality.

A couple of times the high temperature has spiked at around 150, but goes right back. It may have been when the heater was on and it floated past a spa jet. I've had it for 5 months, and just bought another for a friend.

I love the design, but after a week, the display in the floating unit started to go out and it had some condensation inside, somehow. I will exchange for another and hope for the best. The remote unit is a bit large but not a big problem.
