Customer Questions & Answers

Does this gate HAVE to attached to wooden posts or does it have the capability to attach to a metal post?

Asked by: Mamajoan
I'm sure you could. The only part that you would need to change would be the "J" hooks. They are lag screw type for wood. I would think you could get some designed for metal.

Does this kit come with a drop latch or a place to install a drop latch I am wanting to put two of the 96' kits together to make a 12" driveway gate.

Asked by: Anthony
Yes, you could attach it to the frame. It's just metal instead of wood.

I want to intal the wood slats horizontally. Will the frame take self taping screws?

Asked by: handy
Yes. I would attach boards to the frame, then attach the slats to the boards.

3 Rail Gate Frame Kit- Adjusts 60-96 in. by 60 in.; Does this product come with hinges?

Asked by: Lenny
5/8" lag bolt for wood / hinge hardware are included, as well as a gate latch and diagonal cable for added support (suggest that you pick up a second small cable clamp as they provide one and it is probably best with 2 cable clamps).

It is a great Idea, BUT they have to have the correct parts in the kit, The instructions say to use the parts, it makes sense to use them. So I tried to get the correct part for both the kits I bought, they sent me an alternative to 1 kit, I like the original design, why would I want an alternative? and why send me only 1 when I bought 2 kits. I have nothing but good things to say about the help from home depot but I wanted to put up my gate over 2 weeks ago and there is no solution currently in sight, so no gate yet. As you can tell I am very disappointed in the product and cannot wait to see if it will even work once I get the right hing supports.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Saves time, still doesn't solve the middle sag problem Purchased two of these gates to create a 14' privacy fence opening. Since this is said to be "contractor grade", I assumed that it would be plenty sturdy to create a 7' gate opening and not sag in the middle, since I only attached 5/8" pickets directly to it to save weight. Wrong. Attached to a 4"x6" the gates sagged in the middle from the moment I attached the pickets to the latch side. On top of that it started rusting immediately. I paid the cost to save time and at the end of the day I'm going to have to take it all down and build wood gates with wheels anyway. At $50 I can see it, but at this price the value is just not there.

It is designed to make it easy to add your own boards to the gate, after adjusting for your opening. I used it with an already constructed panel (Signature Development Red Cedar 6x6 Panel Kit) and I had to make some modifications to make it work in my situation. However, the modifications were easy to complete and the gate works well. It swings freely and the diagonal brace wire allows you to square the frame and adjust it to keep it square. One drawback is the funky latch mechanism. It is not engineered well and will not work without modification.

Even though I left the recommend 1" gap between the end of the gate and the post the latch was secured to, the latch sticks to the post. I also had to sand down the gate around the latch to allow for it to operate without hitting the wood panel. But overall I am happy with gate. It took one-person 60 minutes to build the frame and then another 60 minutes to cut, stain, and nail up the wood. I extended the gate to 93" and it worked fine once the 2x4s were installed.

Got the Adjust-a-gate so that I could install a large gate on my privacy fence. The materials are very sturdy and the assembly only took a couple of hours by myself. The gate swings very smoothly and there have been no signs of sag. I have put in other gates in the past, only to adjust them within a couple of days. This one took a little fine tuning on installation and have not had to touch it since. Made an otherwise tedious task simple.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Adjust-a-gate I found this frame to be easily installed and it seems sturdy when finished. The hardware supplied with the kit was supprisingly cheap and weak. I purchased optional hardware for my gate. I also added a spring loaded gate caster for support since the frame was extended to its maximum width. I would probably purchase this product again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great gate so far Just finished installing two of these gates - to cover a 14 ft opening to my RV storage. So far I've been happy with the product. Each gate is 7ft wide, which gets heavy once you get fencing attached to the wooden pieces on the metal frame. I had no problem with the turnbuckle hardware and it made it easy to make the gate level. My gates open towards the street, which the manufacturer warns you this gate is not set up to handle. The problem is that when you swing the gate open the fence boards over the gate J-bolt hinges will hit the neighboring boards covering the support posts. My initial plan was to just leave that section without any fence board, which would've looked ugly but I was willing to live with it. Then I hit upon the idea of hinging the board covering the hinges to the board next to it with a piano hinge. Now we just flip those boards out of the way before opening the gate. Maybe this would get annoying if you open your gate every day, but we only open ours 15-20 times/year so it isn't a problem

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super easy but adjust for a double gate This gate hardware made putting up a gate so fast! We set 4x8 posts about 3' deep the day before and used 2 kits to create a double swing in gate that is 11' wide and 6 feet tall and within about 2 hours we had it done including nailing up all the fencing slats. We used the hardware provided which seemed fine to us unlike other reviewers that bought upgraded hardware separately but we are in California so don't have weather extremes which I imagine are tough on hardware. Instructions were not included for creating a double gate so there was only one mistake we made which was that we put both of the sides which were marked "latch side" together in the middle which caused the pre drilled holes for the tensioner a to be in the wrong spot in order to adjust the tension to lift the gate up as needed. It wasn't a big deal it just took a couple extra minutes to drill two new holes and we were back on track. It would be nice if they told you that when building a double gate choose only one gate to have the "latch side" in the middle and on the other gate put the other side marked "latch side" to the outside and not the middle so that the tensioner holes are in the correct spot.
