Yes mine is attached to a 4x4 wood post on my deck. If for a fence gate I would make sure to cement post in place. Hope this helps

you could use about any post that's at least 4" in diameter. Even a round post. Use a 3/8" spade bit to pre-drill the hole.

Yep. Thats what it is made for. Nice thing is that most gates are too heavy for 4x4s but this one is not only strong enough but really limits the weight of your gate.

The kit is intended for wood posts. You could check Home Depot for metal fence parts that would work with hinges designed for metal posts. The tough part would be to drill the holes in the metal posts, if that is your plan. It is hard to do that with round metal posts. They may have hinges that go around metal posts, but the diameter of the posts would be a factor. Talk to staff at your local HD for Read More

Answer:
Nope. And if there were, they wouldn't withstand the heat of going into metal. The hinge screws are wide thread galvanized. They are made to twist into wood. If you are going into a medal pole, you can get the same size (diameter) hinge bolts on threaded bolt at a farm and home store (Orchleans) that will work well.

Graham, thank you for your interest in our Adjust-A-Gate™ product. Our kits come with all of the hardware required to assemble for a wooden fence. To alter the product you will need to purchase additional hardware for the revisions. Referring to the hardware instructions part number 5 (qty 2) is the part that would need to be replaced for a post hinge for metal.

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 50 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible gate kit. Fell over after the first gust of wind! If I could give 0 stars I would. 3 steps to install, and it will not stay up during the installation. I ended up having to build this on the driveway and haul it to the fence, only to have it fall outward at the first strong gust of wind. Now I have to disassemble the afternoon's worth of work and take this hunk of garbage back to the store. Don't waste your money on this. July 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pretty slick Good buy for the cost. Just purchased my 3rd kit. Fairly simple to install but directions could be clearer. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Gate - Worth the price! Overall a great well built gate. Rating of 750lbs? No, not true! My only complaint is the Cedar 2x4's do not fit in the slots. But I could see maybe this being designed for redwood? or something a bit thinner? We bought one of those anti sag gates a year ago, for the back yard, and that one is okay, but this one we installed for the front, and love it so much more! Fairly easy to build, well built, works well, adjustment is easy! Sturdy design, I love it! We didn't use the hinge with the kit, as we wanted a pass through option to open from either side. Had to trim the cedar boards to be a little thinner to fit the metal, but it worked out great, looks and works great. So much better than the other lesser gate kit! Worth the extra 20 bucks!!! As for the negative reviews, buy a 1.00 bag of self tapping screws that you like! And it will work great! July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great for smaller gates I've used this kit for a 3 foot gate and a 6 foot gate, both 6 feet high wood picket. That covers their width range recommendation. It works great for a 3 foot gate, very sturdy and doesn't sag after a couple of years. It does not work as well for the maximum width of 6 feet. It does sag right away and keeps settling. You can only tighten the gusset cable so much before the frame and S hook attachments start getting overstressed. I think 6 feet is too wide for this design. It's OK, but I would make two 3 foot gates instead. They need to make the two side rails exactly the same, with the S hook gusset holes the same in both sides. They are the same except for those two holes so they can be mixed up. November 15, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good gate kit for the money Bought 3 of these 2 for my fence gate and one for my deck gate. They hold up better than any other gate kit that I've used only down side is the hardware screws strip easy unless the wood is wet so there is no strain on the screw. But would recommend you buy better screws. July 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice kit but get your own screws This kit is easy and to the point. It makes building a gate a breeze. The 3" screws bend and strip easily so my suggestion is to purchase 3" galvanized wood screws to use instead of the ones included. The gate is set up for a single sided latch. You cannot open the gate from both sides without reaching over the gate to release the latch. I didn't realize this and I've had to engineer a cable pull to open the gate from the 'other' side of my 6 foot tall dog kennel. If I hadn't then I would be locked in my dog kennel with my dog. These are the only things that prevent me from saying the kit is PERFECT. I would indeed buy it again and recommend it. January 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I've built a bunch of them. Always use my own screws. other hardware works fine. have to play with the latch tyo get it just right. Best part is that Best reasonably priced gate kit i've found. Will buy many more. Keep them in the store. April 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Superb Product I installed this product at my house yesterday and really love it, simple instructions and easy to do! April 26, 2016
