What is the V shaped part for?

This question is from Drop Rod Kit for Double Gate Drive-Thru Set-Up

What is the V shaped part at the top of the mounting plate for? I'm asking because it doesn't work for holding the bolt up and if it isn't for that then it doesn't serve any purpose.

Adjust A Gate Product Expert, did you read my question? You answered by telling me that it does what I said it does NOT do in my question. It doesn’t hold the bolt up. It’s not shaped correctly to hold the bolt up. I’m not the only one who noticed this, a reviewer wrote “the rod cannot be well secured while the gate is opening and often falls onto the driveway.” There’s nothing (like perhaps a notch in the V shaped part) preventing the bolt handle from swinging around and causing the bolt to drop when the gate moves. I don’t know if it’s a design problem or manufacturing problem but it doesn’t hold the bolt up. Read Less

Answer:
It is for holding the bolt up so the bolt doesn't drag on the ground when swinging your gate open/closed. When installing, raise this plate up high enough for this purpose.

I have a 2" clearance at the bottom of my fence and am worried about how far it would go into ground? This is important to me since I live in South Florida and have constant windy storms.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pleased with the final product I bought two of these ... one for each 6 foot width of a double wide carport entrance. After some adjustment, the gate is working fine and I'm content with the product. The gates seem quite sturdy and I expect them to last for years without sagging. However, they were not perfect. I bought two of the same product and the hardware that came with the two differed. This was annoying and necessitated another trip back to the store to buy screws. In addition, the instructions were quite poor and I had to be creative for using these to make a double wide gate. I suggest looking online for installation videos. One short video was much more valuable than the paper instructions I received. September 17, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by easy installation i only used one drop rod which worked okay for my dual gates, but because it is rather short - 24 - 26" above the ground with 4-6" below - i have to lean over and hold it while i open the gate; the rod cannot be well secured while the gate is opening and often falls onto the driveway. this rod is only 30" long. i could have wished for one about 40" or more, but i'm not sure anyone makes one of this height. there didn't seem to be anything else anywhere else available so i bought the drop rod, but i don't think many people would find it very satisfactorily suited.
