Is this product strong enough to hold up under 4 - 5 feet of dirt, so that it can be installed at the base of a retaining wall?

Answer:

I am a certified, licensed wall installer. We do not use this product because it will plug with leaves and collapse over time. It will deteriorate after about 10 yrs. We use "sewer and drain" pipe. No problems. Does cost more.

yes but you must use several "weeping" holes in the retaining wall...using pvc's tubes.

I layed this pipe in a trench I dug to carry the water from the gutter's two down spouts away from the building. I hadn't realized this was perforated (my carelessness in ordering) but for my application I felt that it would not matter. Connecting the appropriate Tee and downspout collector all the pieces snapped together with no difficulty. What is nice is it can be unsnapped to make changes. It is probably a larger diameter than necessary to carry away rain water but overall pleased with this item.

Went in the hole that I dug and fit in place also drained water! Would be better if the pipe could dig its own hole, crawl in, then bury its self, but otherwise does the job.

14 yrs a landscaper. This product is easy to install and is cheap compared to "sewer and drain" pipe. However, in a few years I get call backs to replace it because the ridges hold leaves and particularly pine needles. You can't roto rutter it because the bit will tear up the plastic. I don't use this product because of customer complaints.

I've used this for a drainage system in an above ground planting box to prevent over watering. Installed and tested. Drains well, did not clog up with dirt.
