Answer:
If you truely want a narrow path, I reccommend that you use a Drop Spreader.
The typle of rotary spreader shown in the picture may be able to spread a path about 4 feet wide (2 feet on either side) if you walk slowly. The faster you walk, faster the rotor turns and the further out your material will be spread.

Why did the mfgr put this together and try it if it works. The plastic shoot fell apart and the transaxel broke, and the adjuster fell apart. . It will only spread in reverse, NOT forward.

Answer:
The 130 lb spreader is a more robust spreader to support the extra weight. The gears on the 85 lb spreader are enclosed plastic and the gears on the 130 lb are cast aluminum. The 85 lb uses a cable and the 130 lb spreader uses a rod for opening and closing.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 64 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible product, broken before I even started assembling it, don't think it would survive one season. I started removing the parts to put the spreader together and noticed the cable that controls the feed gate was loose. After a quick inspection, I found that the attach point for the cable to the hopper was a 1/2" X 1/16" piece of PLASTIC with little ears that flare out to keep the cable attachment connected to the hopper. The ears on the unit I received were already broken, so the cable wouldn't stay attached to the hopper. Even if it wasn't initially broken, I can't imagine that weakness would ever survive the repeated opening and closing of the feed gate. The last Agri-Fab spreader I owned worked well for 10+ years, only retired it because corrosion eventually took its toll. I returned the spreader and started searching for a better brand. I originally ordered the product because it had great reviews. September 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good spreader A good product but the plastic wing nuts to mount the handle and the spreader control should be metal. Had to replace those during assembly. Spreader works well but user must be very careful when using to ensure the setting/opening remain on the desired setting. Glad I got it as it should be durable and deliver years of good service. I would recommend this as a better value than those spreaders with plastic wheels. April 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product I ordered on Home Depot online. The assembly process uses a cable to start/stop the flow. This cable was defective in the initial unit. I called and agri-fab shipped a replacement. It looks like a good unit. I haven't actually spread fertilizer with it yet. May 17, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Plastic wingnuts - REALLY? Very disappointed at the quality of this product, If only they would make a decent spread adjustment mechanism at the handle and supply metal wing nuts for assembly this unit would be acceptable. BUT REALLY, PLASTIC wing nuts to install the handle and spread adjuster which all broke during assembly of course, I bet that saved agri-fab a few cents literally. A complete waste of my time assembling as it is being returned for one of better quality and metal nuts and bolts March 27, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Norman This spreader is a great product except for the cheap plastic flow control assembly. Mine broke and I attempted to fix it with some Gorilla glue. I just ordered a new replacement and I hope it lasts longer than the original one. Otherwise I would have given a 5 star rating. July 4, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great Spreader, except for the flow control Really well built and nice spreader, but like everyone else the control lever broke after about five uses. Come on and update to a metal control instead of the wimpy plastic one that is not up to the task. May 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Same Problem I also have the 85lb push spreader and the control keeps on breaking. It would be nice if we could retro the 100lb control to fit but NO so I guess I have to keep buying the plastic one every year April 26, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Broken setting handle I've had this spreader about a month and the handle that controls the amount of fertilizer broke. I opened the plastic housing of the handle and attempted to fix it. It worked fine for about the next 3 passes and then broke again. All in all the spreader does a good job when the setting handle is not broken. April 11, 2016
