Answer:
Dear leafyyard - Thank you for your question. When using any Agri-Fab vac system your mower does the majority of the mulching. The vac impeller will break down the debris a little more.

When I put the mower back in the shed, is this "no tools required" to disconnect the hose from the deck? I guess what I'm asking is this a quick disconnect or what is involved?

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Best tool of this type I have owned one of these for 12 years now and it is an indispensable tool if you have acreage and trees. I am just now replacing the big hose, as it has split open a few times, which I have repaired with electrical tape in the past. You have to watch out for sticks when you are picking up the leaves, as little sticks tend to clog up the chute at the mower deck. Emptying the unit when it is full of leaves is a bit of a pain, I now carry a rake with me as I dump the leaves all over a bean field, not in the same place all the time. October 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This is a great machine, makes handling my 3 acre wooded lot, with 300 oak trees a breeze to clean up, I also get a lot of small limbs, and this thing chews them right up. I did add a spiral clamp to the hose where it attaches to the blower intake, hose clamps aren't that great. But are good for the hose, where it attaches to deck, I also noted that if you start it over leaves, before engaging mower blades it will clog. There are a few tips you must learn to operate it. Once learned, it's Great. Also got an excellent response when I needed a template, thanks. December 1, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Highly satisfied It arrived mostly assembled and had I been better prepared I believe it could have been assembled in 30 minutes. As it is the packages of hardware was missing just one cotter pin to retain the wheels. One cut up coat hanger latter I was on my way. As a machinist I am fairly stingy on what I will pay for and I have to say this is one of the few investments that I am satisfied with. I have run about half an acre of 2" and under trees and scrub through the chipper and it has performed like a champ, rendering about 160 cubic feet of chips/mulch. I have not yet hooked it to the deck of my mower but the vac. does provide enormous suction. As a bit of foolishness on my part, you should close the fuel shutoff while filling the tank or it can drizzle on down into the cylinder and hydrolock the engine... remove and shield the spark plug and turn the engine to pump it out. I have about 12 more acres left to clear and will try to post back here next year when I am done. March 24, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does its job. It has a large capacity which is what we were looking for with our acreage. We have some hills, and it's prone to turning over. We're over 65, so it takes both of us to put it upright again. When putting it together, we were short some washers, and some parts didn't fit as well as they should. My husband had washers in his shop, and he was able to get it together. You need to make wide turns because of its tendency to overturn. It does turn a lot of leaves into a small pile. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by chip and vac the equipment works fine but hose does fall off easy and clog easy but beside that I wouldn't get my yard work done at all lol 1.5 acre lot with over 90 trees lots of leaves it does the job its designed to do best 2000.00 bucks I've spent November 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good product, great customer service. After shopping around and reading numerous online reviews for several different brands of lawn vacuums, I decided to purchase the Agri-Fab Chip-N-Vac from Home Depot. After ordering online, I had the vac delivered to my local HD store to save the home delivery charge since I own a pickup. After reading the assembly manual online I fully expected to have to assemble the vac once I got it home. To my pleasant surprise the vac was already 75% assembled and mounted on a pallet. The folks at Home Depot loaded it up with a forklift and I was able to unload it by sliding pallet and all off the truck by myself. Be careful - it's a hand full unloading by yourself! The cart along with its plastic top come pre-assembled, which is nice because it looks to me like there's about an hour or so work in that alone. All the remaining parts, along with the motor assembly, are boxed up inside and then the whole thing shrink wrapped and strapped to the pallet. After removing all the parts and laying everything out I took a quick inventory. The assembly manual is well written and includes a quick instruction sheet for this partially assembled model. You'll need 1/2 and 9/16 wrenches and/or sockets, pliers, and a standard #2 screwdriver for the clamps. Basically, after flipping the cart on its back per the instructions, you install the complete tongue assembly along with its latch stand, the axle and tires (very easy), and then the engine/impeller housing assembly. I recommend you get help with that but I did mine by myself and my back only hurt for a couple hours afterwards! Install the elbow to the impeller housing and center it in the cart per the instructions, install the chipper chute, install the vacuum hose, ADD OIL TO THE ENGINE, gas, and you're ready to go ... almost. Since this thing is designed to use with a wide range of lawn tractors and mowers Agri-Fab includes a very good selection of templates to use to custom fit the mower deck adapter to your specific model mower. The only issue I had was with my 1995 Cub Cadet 2185 mower deck made by MTD. For some strange reason there wasn't a template that exactly fit my LT 46" mower chute but one was close enough to get me started. At that point it was a simple matter of trial fitting the adapter, removing material as required, refitting, repeating, refitting again until it fit like a glove. Agri-Fab includes more than enough extra hardware and brackets to make any possibility work. A fine tooth straight blade saw helps but I was able to use a heavy bladed box cutter to cut the adapter as needed. In some areas the plastic is VERY thin and I'm wondering just how long it'll last. In my opinion it should be a little thicker - but it'll work. I oiled up the Briggs with Mobile One but any of the oils listed in the manual will work fine. Mine started after about a half dozen pulls - thank goodness - because there's a lot of internal mass to move once you pull on the rope starter. This thing is a prime candidate for an electric starter. I'd willingly pay an extra $100 for it! I guess you could retro-fit one but then you would have to replace an expensive little motorcycle battery every year before using it. I only have about an acre to mow but my yard is loaded with red and white oaks, hickory, gum, and other leaf producing trees that absolutely drive me bananas in the fall. And it's hilly. Normally I used a Billy Goat push blower and a Echo backpack blower to clean the yard up - and dreaded it. This leaf vacuum is the best investment I've ever made and a dream to use. Why I waited this long to purchase one is beyond me. Not only does it suck up the leaves but it also does a pretty good job of grinding them up making them perfect for starting a compose pile. The cart holds quite a bit but fills quickly. You'll know when it's full by watching the dust venting from the rear of the cart, which is a nice feature but you still should wear a dust mask! My 18 horse tractor has no problems pulling the vacuum, even when it's fully loaded, but you REALLY have to watch the hills. I found I could approach a hill and run straight up it and then back it down without any problems. I suspect if you turn this thing over, especially loaded, it wouldn't be a pretty scene. But I had so much fun with this thing I even did my neighbors yard! Money well spent. December 10, 2013
