If you have a modest amount of mechanical ability and can read directions it should not take you more in about 20 minutes to put together.

Thank you for your interest in the Agri-Fab 130 lb spreader. There is assembly required, refer to owner's manual on Home Depot.com. Assembly should take approximately one person 45 minutes to an hour, the assembly instructions are straight forward and easy to follow. Tools required are a hammer, two (2) 7/16" wrenches and pliers. There is also an assembly video available via Home Depot.com.

Answer:
I used solar salt for my clients. (water softener salt) which has mostly smaller granules up to 1/4 inch but some up to 1 inch. The larger opening on a setting of 10 works great for the larger materials. However the smaller stuff like Ice Melt or rock salt has what are call "fines" which will spread but can clog if wet or damp.

Yes it will. The opening at the base of the hopper can open very wide. Although I don't use salt any more. You'll just need to be careful about the rock hard clumps that salt turns into when it gets wet

Answer:
As long as the lime or fertilizer is granular, yes you can spread it with this spreader. The flow control plate on my unit closes almost all the way, but no amount of adjustments will get it entirely closed. The remaining gap is small enough that granules will not pass through, but it would probably leak a bit for powdered lime.

Answer:
Thank you for considering the Agri-Fab 130 lb. spreader for your lawn care needs. All of Agri-Fab's spreaders are designed to spread pelletized lime in addition to grass seed, fertilizer, granular herbicides and ice melt. However powdered lime is too fine and will not work with our spreaders.

SmartSpreader 130 lb. Push Broadcast Spreader is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 51.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Front left wheel retention. Have not used the spreader yet. Just spent 3 hours putting it together. Rolled it around the yard and the front left wheel will not stay on. The little plastic retainer button pushed over the axel is totally inadequate as a retaining device to keep the wheel on. The right drive wheel is no problem because of the pin that holds the wheel on and so that that that wheel can drive the spreading device. There should be another pin on the outside of the wheel on the left side to keep it on the axel. There is no hole in the axel at that point to place a pin. That part of the design is flawed to a point in my estimation. Any suggestions before I return the spreader.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quality Control My new broadcast spreader, model 45-04621 arrived with two left hand tire attachment rods instead of one for each side. Agri-Fab is sending the correct part but having waited a week for the unit to arrive and now having to wait another week for the missing part will delay my projects. Our company is located in New England and it takes time for grass seed to germinate... Winter comes sooner than once would think?

This spreader works great in spreading salt on icy and snow covered sidewalks and other walk-ways. It holds a large amount of salt enabling the salting of more area without having to stop and reload the spreader as frequently. This spreader has exceeded our expectations. It was quite simple to assemble and put into operation and adjusting the spread rate was not as difficult as on other spreaders used previously.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Was an upgrade Worked well. Had a few little problems with it getting stuck but I am using bigger chunk rock salt to spread. Was able to load it to the max of 130 lbs and spread with ease and never clogged. Material does not channel well to the middle to be spread. Could have just been the salt. Will find out how well it does seed and fertilizer this spring.

We have had expensive and cheaply priced spreaders. This is the third AgriFab spreader, and they are simply the best. Longest lasting as they have substantial tires and the gears don't go to heck on you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Food Plot Helper Bought the spreader to use for fertilizing my food plots. Assembly was fairly easy. Illustrations sufficient to assemble it in about 15 minutes. The assembled product seems solid, the wheels and handle are a huge improvement over standard yard spreaders. Our soil is very sandy. I fertilized one food plot after completing the discing and planting. The unit was difficult to push through the sand, even with the larger wheels when loaded with 50 lbs of fertilizer. That might just be an issue with our soil in Florida. The spreader performed well on my other food plots when using it before I plowed. The spread pattern gave me solid coverage, just over 10 feet wide per pass. No loose or stressed joints after finishing 4 acres. I will update my review after planting fall food plots.

The only minor complaint I have is when I used it to spread grass seed sometimes the seed would quit coming out and I had to shake it or open it more.
