Can the fan and light be hooked to seperate on/off switches?

install in a drop ceiling?

Asked by: george
Yes you can as the fan blower can be loacated separately from the decorative part. This is what I did, the blower in the attic, fan in the bathroom. This fan is noisy, I would recommend the quiet version instead!

Will this cover a 10" square hole left by the removal of the old 1973 fan light combo that I just removed.

Asked by: rick
The round nickel decorative piece is 13.5 inches in diameter. You need to measure from your corners to see if you are under that but I doubt it. Also, the box fan assembly that goes in the ceiling is less than 7.5 square. You will have to do like I did and fill in that gap. Doesnt have to match the ceiling since it will be covered up but it does need to be moisture resistant, I suggest rigid insulation. If you dont do this you are just letting warm moist air escape into the attic, just asking for mold. Gotta vent this thing out the roof.

The nickel round piece has to be permanently attached to the box in the attic, attached with sheet metal screws into unthreaded "lances" which are just small folds in the metal barely big enough to accept the screws. Also, as soon as I ordered it, the price dropped by $5.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Extremely shoddy construction Almost as if it's made out of tin foil, very cheap quality, much louder then the one it replaced which looked exactly the same. Don't feel it will last to long

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 1 Star Warning - Some engineering required as with other reviewers, I also had to fix the fan by bending the casing in order to free the blades. Test the fan before installing, orientated as it would be in the ceiling to see if yours is jammed as well. also, like others, the lances are a poor choice for mounting the light deck plate. I found the screws not long enough and needed to find others to successfully finish mounting the light. The fan is high-pitched but it is acceptable if you're interested in utilizing the fan for privacy. The overall aesthetics are good, though. Carefully inspect and test first before you decide to hang this to help reduce project time/disappointment. If you're willing to fix the above flaws, it will provide a good looking bath fan for half price.
