Answer:
Yes, KP44, you can completely remove the top. It sits nicely within the rim at the top of the barrel, and over the plastic "screen". We recommend using a flower pot set into the cavity for potted plants in the lid. When the barrel fills up, it overflows into the lid cavity. Will add a photo later, if possible.

Answer:
Yes, it is. If you attach a hose, just be aware that the pressure will not be like coming directly from your house. In my case, I attach a soaker hose to the to the tube that comes out from the bottom and hangs from the side. I use the spigot for filling watering cans. The whole system works on gravity feed so be sure to raise the water barrel when installing it.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very cool product! This rain barrel is amazing! It holds SO much water and actually looks decent. I have no gutter system at all so I placed it in a corner where we have a heavy rain run off. I cut the bottom of the planter area out and now there is a larger opening. I have more water collected than I know what to do with! I think this is a great buy. September 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Oh well I wrote a 5-paragraph raving review on this barrel last week. Unfortunately, my entire review summary was obliterated when I was disconnected to Home Depot's review webpage right before hitting the submit button. Oh well. The barrel is great. I would have given five stars and purchased two of them if the price was better. Shipping box was crushed on two corners, but the barrel was not harmed. The quality of the design, thick walls and outlet features are great. Easy to assemble and install. Filled up and overflowed in 4 minutes with the first heavy rain just 10 minutes after installing it. I highly recommend the Cascata 65 GAL. Rain Barrel in Terracotta. Will add photos later, if possible. August 24, 2016
