Customer Questions & Answers

Is this the product you would use to transition from vinyl plank to carpet? If not, then what would be best?

Asked by: Anonymous
This is not the product to use from vinyl plank to carpet. This is used to change direction when laying down the planks. Working from left to right is easy. The adhesive strip on the plank is exposed, so you just lay the next plank down (there's a groove on the underneath side of the next plank to keep all the planks level). But if you need to change direction (like filling in a bay window cut-out or going into another room), now you're trying to tuck the adhesive strip under the current plank. That can be done, but it's a lot easier to use the transition strips, then go back to working left to right.

90 degree transition

When you change directions, going perpendicular to the existing planks, don't all of the new planks lay out so that all the ends are at the same place? In other words, when starting out, you stagger the length of the first plank in each row, so that the ends don't all line up. How can you stagger the layout in the perpendicular planks? Using the factory cut end to abut over these transition strips, all the planks would be the same length, row after row.

Cut your pieces in different lengths first so even though you abutted in the transition the other end is staggered so you can continue.

how long is each of the Allure transition strips?

Asked by: Nan
I'm assuming that the 288 inches listed in the product description is the total of all 8 strips so if you divide 288 by 8 you get 36 inches and that sounds more reasonable to me.

Which transition looks best with Sawcut Dakota?

Asked by: River
These transition strips are not seen, so it doesn't matter which color flooring you're using. What this is, is a sticky strip you put underneath a strip when you need to change directions. For example, if you were installing from left to right, then went around a wall into another room or a closet, you would use one of these transition strips underneath so you could continue installing, but now from right to left.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You need this This is almost required if you are laying down Allure flooring in adjacent rooms and the planks are running perpendicular to the doorway, unless you want an ugly transition or threshold in said doorway. This allows you to lay the floor in the opposite direction. Home Depot needs to carry this product in store, or at least make associates aware of it when taking orders for this type of flooring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why is this not sold in stores? I installed allure gripstrip cherry flooring throughout my house. For about half of my house, I was able to install from left to right. I got to a point where I needed to start on the other half of my house and move in the opposite direction. The way the planks are made, either I'd have to install backwards (tuck planks under each other, going right to left) for 3 rooms, or I'd need this product so I could reverse and start going left to right again. There was some confusion receiving the product, so I would suggest ordering well in advance of starting your project just in case you need it. Unless you're only installing one room, you'll probably need it. As shown in the picture, I installed the row against the wall after coming down a hallway and installing a room parallel on the right, then I installed the under transition strips on the left side of the planks and started a row going the opposite direction. I hope that makes sense.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it but they need to sell it in stores I would give this product 5 stars in ease of use, quality, and appearance. However I am giving it 4 stars because we had to do major research to even learn about this product. No one at Home Depot suggested it and you cannot buy it in stores. It had to be special ordered. Product is great. Home Depot is not.

I used these strips both for under transitions and to support the starter edges to keep them from curling down. The adhesive is as strong as that on the tile pieces. It is excellent for these special needs
