Product Overview

Alsa’s 12 oz. Killer Chrome comes in a specially formulated spray can that delivers a fine, even spray. Our Killer cans have a high output with excellent atomization that eliminates pressure drop during application. Killer Chrome is a hyper ground metallic pigment used to create a mirror-like finish when applied over a high-gloss black surface. For the best results, we recommend using Alsa's Jet Black as a base coat, part number KC-ASB-13. When properly applied, this material can achieve the look of real chrome. We use near molecular scale metallic pigment that provides amazing coverage and the smooth even look of real metal, because it is real metal. Please be sure to read the How To Application Guide. This material is easy to over-apply and over-application will create a look similar to silver paint. Light dusting coats are required. Most commonly sold as a kit (Killer Chrome Kit, Part number “KC-KCH-KIT”), this material is very sensitive to clears and should only be used with Alsa’s MirraClear clear coat, part number KC-MCLR. Killer Chrome can be used over a wide variety of colored base coats to create some very interesting colored metallic looks. It can also be used to back coat clear materials, such as Lexan or clear plastics, to create an amazing chrome look from the front. Alsa Killer Chrome should be top coated with our high quality MirraClear, part number KC-MCLR for durability and a deep, water-wet gloss look.

I'm refinishing a bass guitar and using a candy fool's gold. My thought is to achieve and mirrored gold/orange finish by using the killer can instead of the standard silver base coat. I would prefer using the bullseye shellac white primer as opposed to the black undercoat if possible. I realize the results may very.

Answer:
Yes, you can lay this on top of a white primer. You probably be wise to test it on a trial surface before spraying your axe.

Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't buy it If your looking for chrome go real. This is not a chrome look it no better than silver paint. Is not what it claims to be. October 25, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Shiny, if you have the patience. This is the middle coat of the three step process using this product. The idea is to create a contrasting background to the chrome spray. You need to have a really smooth surface and an even coat of the jet black as a base. The recommended drying time between coats is 24 hours. So anything you paint will take about 3 days. The finish is bright, but you will not get the brilliance of chrome that you may anticipate. It is a decorative paint, so keep that in mind. It's shiny, if you have the time and patience to do the job. May 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does what it says It ain't chrome but highly polished metal. It's what I wanted. They got another kit that uses silver for real chrome look. This suits me fine May 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing results I used this to paint a really large old metal frame I have and I wasn't overly committed to it being perfect. So I simply used a high pressure water hose on the frame, let it dry and then sprayed it with two light coats of this Killer Chrome paint. Super easy and turned out great. There are some imperfections because of my lack of prep but I knew that going into it and I am ok with it. Looks just like chrome and I will be trying more of their product line for future products. I allowed a day between coats but it felt dry to the touch after 2 hours and I could have applied another coat at that time. Nice even application, just read and follow the directions. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Big disappointment There must be something really special about the polishing cloth that was supposed to come with it, because I could not get the dusted on paint to do what the instructions said would happen. I followed the instructions and tried it twice. Didn't work. Looked like brushed aluminum, at best. Checked out the Killer Chrome video at Alsa's website but it wouldn't play. Not impressed. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pretty good but not 100% I used this on a metal plant stand and was expecting a chrome shiny finish that didn't quiet come out that way. It still looks good, but it isn't what I would call a 'chrome' finish. It is shiny and silver and it works ok for my project but if you are expecting a mirror like chrome finish you might be disappointed. Spray is even and smooth with no overlapping lies and dried pretty quick. It took a really long time to arrive in the mail. January 31, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Eh...not as good as alsa's other kit I'm not impressed with this version of chrome paint offered by alas. They have better systems available at an added cost but it's worth it while this is not so much worth the time to try and get chrome out of a rattle can. Everything would have to be so perfect to even have a chance at a chrome look that it just is not worth the effort...in my humble opinion...I'm just not impressed at all. I ordered the recommended base coat black and had the Mirra clear and it just absolutely did not turn out favorable. It's a disappointment in my book of painting experience since it just simply looks like a silver finish with metal flake appearance...and honestly, it's what I expected after using their patented chrome FX spray system which turned out absolutely great. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not what I expected I have used other Killer Cans spray paints with great results. So I was excited to possibly find a realistic metallic finish spray paint. This, sadly, didn't turn out to be the one. Like the other reviewers I used the recommended Jet Black Basecoat and Mirra Clear topcoat. However, I still was unable to get the result of a mirror chrome finish. The Mirra Clear gave me a shinny topcoat. Unfortunately, it was over a matte silver finish. April 10, 2014
