Asked by: tocool5529
Yes, it was very easy to change the door swing. I watched the crew do it in my kitchen in just a couple of minutes. No muss, no fuss.

Are the sides of the refrigerator also stainless steel or only the doors?

The sides are pebble gray & look & clean great. The stainless needs to be wiped often.

Yes. Its a bit of a pain and you shouldn't try this unless you are cleaning it out on occasion.

Customer Reviews

30 in. W 18.7 cu. ft. Bottom Freezer Refrigerator in Black is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 168.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never cooled right; had to be replaced If you buy and Amana refrigerator, cross your fingers and pray that you will never need to talk to Amana customer service, because it is the worst customer experience you can expect to have. We bought a new fridge, but the freezer didn't work properly and was always too warm. Amana forced us through 6 different repair attempts over 6 weeks. The repair attempts did not work, the temperature just got higher. We wasted tons of food. Amana finally accepted that this unit is faulty and has promised another one, since it is under warranty, but they are super slow. We have to wait 2 more weeks. We're living out of a mini-fridge and their constant refrain is that "they are sorry, but nothing can be done." I do not recommend Amana Whirlpool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Refrigerator I replaced my 20.5 cubic ft., Maytag top freezer for a smaller bottom freezer.....and am not regretting my decision. It seem like I have more room...go figure. I like having my refrigerator at eye level....and the few times I need to get something out of the freezer....the roll out shelves make it very easy. It is very quiet, the door seals tightly, and it doesn't run as much as my previous refrigerator. If I didn't have a cabinet enclosure, I would have gotten the larger size, but I haven't missed the 2 cubic ft.......although I will put it to the true test at Thanksgiving! The produce/ vegetable/ snack drawers are not the the most durable looking, but I am not rough....for the money, it is a well made refrigerator, without many of the bells and whistles that tend to be problematic in the long run. Well, we ended up keeping it because after we loaded with food and allowed it to charge up (get cold) for a week the noise lessened... Door compartments are a bad design. With the rounded corners you can's fit near as much in as in our 16yr old Amana which had (IMHO) at least 20% more space than this identically sized fridge by Amana. Crispper drawers keep falling out because there is no drawer stops like our older Amana. Overall, nice fit/cost trade-off for our small kitchen and the door handles don't have that trophy/shrine look like the Maytags. Btw--if you do decide to buy you will need to contact Whirlpool and have them send you 3-each, part WP67001130 which are plugs for the L/R hinge mount holes. Took half-day on phone to train up Whirlpool customer care person on why there are blank holes in the front where the door hinge mounts depending on whether you mount L/R and why there were not 'white' plugs included with the fridge like noted on page-4 of Whirlpools user install manual. Anyway, they finally my point and sent me 2-each plugs to cover the 3-holes in the front - ahh, beam me up Scotty. You may just want to go to TrueValue and pick some up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We didn't need an ice maker; ice is an old family recipe. Our fridge was on it's last legs, wasn't dead yet but it was close. We had time to trek from store to store and walk rows of refrigerators. We now had ideas but no fridge. After the trips to the stores, the internet searches began. We had size constraints. So, we narrowed our choices to 3 brands, and decided the Amana was the way to go. The model was located at a local store, and we bought it on the spot. One thing I hadn't taken into consideration was how little electricity it uses. We won't be getting those holiday cards from the electric company any more. We like the ways the shelves can be adjusted to make the most efficient use of space, and how well lit the interior is. With the fridge on top and the freezer drawers on the bottom, everything is much easier to put away and find. There is even lighting for the freezer drawers. The door to the fridge holds quite a bit: the bottom shelf holds three half-gallons of milk & two half-gallons of juice. The other shelves on the door are adjustable for the most often used items. We like the way the door closes with a thunk, and the way the freezer drawer seems to pull itself closed when it's an inch or so away from closing. The fit and finish are good, and the refrigerator is quiet. Compared to our last refrigerator, this thing should pay for itself due to the savings in electricity used to run it. To sum it up we are very happy with our decision to buy this Amana refrigerator.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bottom freezer, pull out freezer door We had an Amana 18 cu ft bottom freezer unit we bought 16 years ago. This summer we were advised that the compressor was worn out and that replacing it was a complicated process that isn't terribly successful. So I got on the phone with our local retailer. He explained that Amana in 2000 isn't the same as Amana in 2016 (they're now owned by Whirlpool). Well, we loved the bottom freezer we had. For the size (18cu ft) there are really only a few choices: a couple of Amanas, a couple of Whirlpools. The prices are approximately the same. We made the choice this way: the comparable Whirlpool comes with an ice maker; we would have to take it out, since we don't have a water feed for this unit. Also, if you Google around, people seem to be (over time) a little more satisfied with their Amana brand fridges. One important thing to know: the dimensions of the new one are exactly the same as the 2000 models. So you can swap this one in for an old one. We've had it for a week. It seems to work perfectly. About the bottom freezer: we have two fridges, this one, and a regular top freezer model. Bottom freezer is just much better. We don't go to the freezer anywhere near as often as the rest of the fridge. Having everything that we normally use at shoulder height is just terrific. About the pull out drawer: Not sure yet. You will want to get used to pulling from the center rather from the side the door is on, since the drawer is a little bendy and you won't like pulling it from the side. The space usage seems to be pretty good. Eventually there is going to be an issue about cleaning the bottom of the freezer compartment (it's not as easy to get at as the door model). It is kind of nice to be able to pull out the drawer and drop in things from above. IN some sense this is a "Made in America" unit, and that's a great thing, even if it's not true that the whole thing is made in Amana Iowa. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The worst refrigerator I ever purchased. I would not recommend this product. Never had crisper drawers fall off the track when pulling out. Your representative that was out here advised me to pull drawers open slowly without moving a fraction of an inch. The drawer even fell off the track on his initial pull. So now when anyone goes to get something out of the crisper drawers I have to warn them of the problem. You do have a manufactures defect on this product. I actually hate my refrigerator because of this. I'm really sorry that I purchased your product. I really feel like I have been had and it appears nothing will be done. I have never given such a bad review in my whole life as I have done now..... I even had to give you 1 star so that that this could be submitted. How sad is that... I was very impressed with the interior space and lighting in both the refrigerator and freezer sections. This one replaced an identical model purchase about 15 years ago. When I put everything back in I found that I had a lot of room to spare. The interior is bright and spacious with modular components, and it came to temperature in both sections quickly and is very quiet when running. The ability to change the door swing to hinge on the left was priceless - many manufacturers do not allow this now. There is a strong magnetic door closure/seal on both doors. Overall very happy with this Amana and my only regret is not making the purchase sooner! BTW, the Home Depot delivery crew was outstanding - they removed my old one and were in and out in probably under 20 minutes and left no mess behind. Their crew is welcome back here anytime.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Freezer Bottom Fills With Ice and Leaks Water on Floor We bought this fridge a few years ago and realized right away that it is too small for our family of four. But it's what would fit in kitchen. The real problem with this fridge is that the bottom of the freezer will periodically fill with a layer of ice, which then causes water to leak out from under the fridge onto the floor. We have to chisel the ice out of the bottom of the freezer, which stops the water from leaking....for a while....until the same thing happens again. I did some research and discovered this is a chronic problem with this model. One fix is to defrost the fridge and freezer. We did that once, but the problem kept occurring. We also had a repairman come and look at it. He installed our ice maker and did "something" (I don't recall what). But the problem still persists. For this reason, I am not a fan of this fridge.
