The specs seem to show two different rough openings. I'd like to frame it in since the window won't be here for a week. Thanks.

Answer:
Windows are measured in two different ways: "Rough Opening" (RO) & "glass size".
As indicated by the second response, the RO on the 24x38 is 26.25 in. x 41.25 in., just as it is posted within the Specifications tab for that window. These are the numbers you'll need to frame the window properly. Never frame a window until you have a definite answer on the RO number, and even when you do know the number, Read More
Windows are measured in two different ways: "Rough Opening" (RO) & "glass size".
As indicated by the second response, the RO on the 24x38 is 26.25 in. x 41.25 in., just as it is posted within the Specifications tab for that window. These are the numbers you'll need to frame the window properly. Never frame a window until you have a definite answer on the RO number, and even when you do know the number, always allow yourself a little extra in case the hole isn't perfectly square or the framing wood is slightly warped; usually an extra 1/2" added to the width & height is adequate, but the bigger the window, the more care you'll need to take on measuring & squaring the frame.
The 24x38 measurement is the glass size, meaning it has 6.33 sq/ft of potential lighting space. This number is used by your local building inspector to calculate the minimum requirements for emergency egress from the room, potential sun-light space for the room, and heat loss/gain (if your building inspector is advanced enough).
The first response was definitely incorrect and judging by use of the "cut back" phrase, was likely intended as the number required for a replacement window, not a new installation window such as this style. Read Less

Answer:
Sorry but the previous answer is incorrect. I asked this question and can confirm that the actual rough opening is 26 1/4 x 41 1/4. I don't know how they call that a 24x38. The shipping box also said 24x38 on the label. I'm glad I didn't frame it in until it came.

Answer:
A 70 Series DH Fin window with a frame size of 24 x 38 would have a rough opening size of 24.5 x 38.5. The cut back for this model is 1/2" on both dimensions when determining frame size from rough opening size.

I ordered three of these windows and framed in my R.O. to 26.25 x 47.25 as this was listed as the R.O. in the Specifications but the overview says the R.O. is 26.25 x 41.25. I am supposed to receive them today and am not going to be happy if I have to replace my cripple jacks and splice in a piece of sheathing

We purchased a very old mobile home, paid for, so no one can take it away... So now its time to fix it up.

1st- On the option of new construction or replacement. Which would work better with housewrap like Typar? The exterior will be down to the stud, and adding OSB for the Typar, then the windows and new siding.

2nd- Would it be less expensive to special order these windows with full screens or order them with 1/2 screen and get the full screen at a later time.

3rd Can both windows be taken completely out, or just opened inward to clean?

4th The argon gas, an answer to other windows had a reply "The 70 Series Double Hung Fin windows are standard with Lowe3 and Argon" Does it apply to this window since it is the 70 series ?

5th, what are the "14 options available", that is listen on Home Depots search results?

Thank You

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very good window for the price I added this window during a bathroom remodel. I may opt for higher quality windows when I replace all of the existing single pane wooden windows(stained inside), but this is in a location that allowed using a vinyl window. I could not find double hung new construction with full screen in this size in any local big box or window outlets. Online ordering was easy and the window was delivered promptly and well packaged. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not size listed Beware, this product is not 24x38. It is 25.5x40.75. The rough open is larger than that. It will not work if you need a 24" wide window. April 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Good Window Window came with LowE , Argon filled. Window feels sturdy and looks good. June 11, 2014
