Customer Questions & Answers

Is the window frame hollow or insulated?

It's so light it feels like it's not insulated inside.
Asked by: ms957
It's hollow, or as they like to call it " multi chamber insulated. "

Can these be used in new construction or are they replacement windows only?

Asked by: As
I don't know the difference. I don't see why they could not be placed into new construction but you should ask at counter where the experts sit in the store to be sure.

30.75 in. x 22.75 in. White Hopper Basement Vinyl Window is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from I bought two Craftsmen Windows by Anderson to replace the hopper windows in my finished basement ... I bought two Craftsmen Windows by Anderson to replace the hopper windows in my finished basement in Dec 2014. I paid a window installer so they would be installed correctly. Windows opened and closed well and I was happy. I went with the Craftsmen argon filled windows as they were off the shelf at Home Depot and appeared to be good quality. Two years later, I’m sitting in the basement and it hit -6°F outside. I hear a two or three loud pops! The inside pane cracked. I bought another window at HD the next day and replaced the broken one. It was winter, I had to replace right away. I called Anderson and they said it’s not covered under their warranty. As far as I'm concerned, the main function of a window is to not break under normal use. Do NOT buy Anderson Windows or Craftsmen by Anderson Windows!! They do not stand by their product or Warranty! Would rate it a 5 if Anderson stood by their products.

I bought one of these to replace an old single pane basement window, which frosted over in very cold Wisconsin winter and mildewed. This new window is superior in every way. It has a great finish, solid lock, and a solid fit within its frame. The opening in my concrete block wall was exactly 32 x 15.25", so I adapted the opening with wood bucks on the sides which I attached to the block with Tapcon screws. This window unit is very solid and the frame stayed square during installation. Just be careful when screwing the frame into wood bucks that you don't overdo it and distort the frame. This product is far superior to whatever most masons commonly supply as a basement window. Installation instructions are available online.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like them..so far I like the way the windows look, installation was fairly simple the only negative part is the hoppers can be tough to get a screw in with the limited space of the opening and the screens will not come out once installed. Overall the quality seems good and they are fairly rugged in construction. Now I am hoping to see some savings over my old drafty single pane windows that were replaced. I still need about 5 more but I was surprised I dismantled, reframed and installed 4 windows in about 4 hours.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, useless directions. The windows worked fine and did the job well. The directions were fro a completely different product, listing components that were no included and weren't needed. It would have been easier to figure out if there had been no directions at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great replacement window Started replacing drafty original single pane wood framed basement windows from the 1950's Very easy to install, very happy with the product. My windows also did not come with screws, didn't matter I had a box of 2 & 1/2 inch stainless screws laying around.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Can't find "enclosed installation screws" - no emergency exit The minimal instructions state "Fasten the window to the wood frame using the enclosed installation screws." I bought three brand new sealed windows from Home Depot, Phillipsburg, NJ. None of the packages had any screws enclosed. This made installation more difficult and required another trip to HD just to look for white screws. I haven't found out how to remove the pane in an emergency. In my old windows the pane just lifted out. This appears to make the 31 x 19 window unsuitable as an emergency exit.
