Customer Questions & Answers

Will I recieve my window exactly to fit my measurements?

To me replacement windows mean I get put it in the same measured opening as the on I'm replacing. Am I wrong?
Asked by: Phyl
If the window is being ordered by the rough opening size, then we do take a cut back to determine the actual frame size for the window. For example, the frame size of a window with a rough opening of 30 x 60 would be 29.75 x 59.25. On this series, we take 1/4" off the width and 3/4" off the height of the rough opening in order to determine the frame size for the window.

Customer Reviews

31.75 in. x 57.25 in. 70 Series Double Hung Buck Vinyl Window - White is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 109.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased. I purchased several of these windows to replace the single pane and storm windows original to my house. I was surprised at how simple they were to install. So far I have been amazed at the noise reduction (I live on a busy street) and the amount I have saved on cooling costs. I am looking forward to seeing how they perform this winter. I was careful to insulate around them so I hope there will be noticeable difference from my old windows. For the cost, I have been very happy with the overall quality, fit, and finish. Yes there are sturdier windows but not in this price range. I think these are a great value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Suprizingly easy and works very well My first window to do myself with my Son-in-Law who knew how and very easy to install and fit in place, ordered the correct size to leave just enough room to seal all around. The screen came with a small hole that something pierced the shipping box but I called and replacement screen is on the way... Thanks, I will buy more of the same from Home Depot, thanks again. RJD

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Windows! I purchased a total of 15 American Craftsman 70 windows - some via homedepot.com and some special order through the local store due to special dimensions. They all came in quickly without any damage or issue. The windows are really easy to install - watch a few videos on the internet on installing replacement windows. Don't be afraid to try yourself. Try one, then your confidence will skyrocket and you will do every window in your house. The windows are excellent and really look nice. Big improvement over the old single pane windows with cracked glazing and oxidized aluminum storm windows. One added bonus is they have really reduced the noise from outside. They are easy to open and clean. I'm sure they will help cut down the drafts during winter and reduce A/C usage during summer. One very minor note - watch for flashing at the outside corner vinyl welds. Trim if needed so they don't throw off your fit into the old window frame.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from installed hundreds and it is worst window ever we had a problem with the window from day one. a tension spring was broke. had to wait for anderson to decide what to do. they sent out another frame to install my window in. frame was not welded and window weight broke another tension spring. they sent out a tech to put another spring in. it took 6 months at this point. plastic over window because it was winter. tried to get the window sealed so the fiber seal touch's the sliding window all year. no go. here we are winter again and going to put plastic up again. it is a very large window. 36 by 70. weak frames!! as the window slides up you can see the frame deflecting and the window slips out of the springs. I have installed hundreds of replacement windows and this is the first one that i have used, and the first one I can not get to seal. do NOT waste your money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great replacement windows These windows were fantastic replacements for my single pane aluminum windows that came with my home. Very easy to install for someone who has never put windows in. The other reviewers sound like they have a bad install. Have had 8 of these installed for one year and the house was much warmer this winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Windows I have ever changed. I had never experienced a home repair such as this. We looked at that other large do it yourself store, and they were no help at all. While browsing Home Depot I managed to find the exact measurements that I had been searching all over town for. Not to mention, the double pane and double hung features, with tilt in for cleaning. Installation was a breeze. Once the old window was completely removed, and yes I mean old, they were the originals on a 83 year old house, installation was truly a breeze. It fit the 30 x 58 opening like a glove. Absolutely no complaints here for this product. I changed the whole house with American Craftsman windows after my first window was such an easy task. All in all, Eight windows were changed I strongly would recommend these windows to others. They are worth the money and then some. Do yourself a favor, and don't let the cold air blow on you from your ancient windows while you are relaxing on your couch this winter. Invest in these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great window and easy to install Well made and easy install makes the windows a great value. They are good looking, and with new wood interior trim and blinds gives the house a new look. Went on line to see how to replace 65 year old windows in a cinder block ranch house. Saw some youtube examples and made measurements.Went to Home Depot who helped me select the right window. Came home, disassembled the old window, siliconed the remaining frame and slid the new window in place. It fit perfectly with no shimming. It also looked so nice I decided to replace all the interior trim. So back to Home Depot for whitr primed trim. First window took an hour, with trim 3 hours. Everything went so well and looked so good I did all 7 windows. Last one took an hour , with the trim.
