I like this window but am installing it with Hardie Board. The j-channel it comes with does not look good with the hardie board and I'd like to remove it -- is this possible? Thanks.

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. We do not recommend modifying the frame in any way as doing so would void the limited lifetime warranty. For additional product information, please visit www.americancraftsmanwindows.com.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy!!!!!!! I bought 16 windows from Home Depot. In good faith I was told nothing but good things about this product. Well, to date, even with a lifetime warranty, American Craftsman Window Company has done nothing to recitfy the problems with most of the windows I bought. I have brown to oil stain spots in some of the windows while the others have a brown sheen in between the pains. They always look filthy because of this problem. A few of them wihistle. I have requested that a rep come out and check the windows out because on the request of the company to take pictures, the film does not show up. I would not recommend these windows or company to anyone. They are terrible and I think my next step is to go to the better business bureau! Do your self a favor and don't purchase these windows. Save yourself time, aggrivation and money by looking into another company!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from decent windows for the price These windows are pretty much air tight and perform well in winter and summer. They also look nice. they are not a firm as a sheet metal or wood window would be. I installed 9 of these windows including a very large picture window. I haven't had any of the problems that a previous customer described here. Maybe they bought some windows that were built on a monday or something. If you're on a tight budget and want a lot of window for the money, these are a good choice.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Windows for Garage Used the same brand several years ago to replace all of the windows in my home. They were a higher quality version. I recently purchased two of these windows for a garage addition. I guess for a low cost window they are OK, but I would not recommend them in a house unless there is a real tight budget. One of the windows arrived with a hole in the screen and the other window screen was not tight in the frame so it sags. I likely won't use the screens since they cover the full window and obscure the entire view through the window. I prefer half screens but since they are for a garage price was my primary consideration. For a garage or low budget project probably a good option, but for a home I would spend a bit extra to get a higher quality window if the budget allows.
