Where can I get the locking device that keeps the window from raising all the way when it is open?

The device that springs out to stop the window from opening all of the way is broken on three of my windows. It pops out and I need to find replacements for them.

ow do I remove bottom sash only and install new bottom sash? Do I need any tools to do this?

Asked by: dave
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the 8500 Series Double Hung Buck Vinyl Window. In order to remove the bottom sash, you will move the sash up approximately 3 inches away from the closed position. Push the tilt latches toward the center of the sash while pulling in on the sash. Hold the sash so that it is perpendicular to the frame. Start lifting the sash at an angle, and when you reach approximately 45 degrees, the sash will become free from the frame, and you can then pull out the other side. How do I remove the screen?

Asked by: Jeff
Thank you for your inquiry concerning the 8500 Series Double Hung windows. The easiest way to remove the screen is to first remove the top and bottom sash. This will give you full access to remove the screen. Pull the lever of the locking mechanism to remove the screen from the track. 35.75 in. x 53.25 in. 8500 Series Double Hung Buck Vinyl Window - White is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple Window To Install The window was simple to install manufacture had DIY video on their website which was actually helpful. The window looks great but has a cheap feel to it. Once installed works well, not as smooth as top end products, but much better then old school windows. The window is much warmer in the winter. Cleaning is WONDERFUL both top and bottom pivot inward to allow for cleaning from the inside. First unit arrive broken looks like it was dropped in shipping Home Depot provided onsite pickup and processed the return with a quick call.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A big difference with only 8 so far OK so I decided that this was the year that I was going to replace my windows. Thought about Remodeled/new construction but didn't want the price that came with it. These windows are price really good for what they deliver. In fact I bought 2 for less from Home depot's competition, but return them immediately after comparing them side by side. These windows are built very well and I can see why they have a lifetime warrantied. I replace 8 of the 16 windows in my home and I notice an immediate improvement in what is usually my coldest room (No heat loss). These windows are a breeze to install for even the novice (myself included) of home improver"s. I was a little nervous at first and started with a really small window. After making my mistakes on this one I tackle 6 of these huge ones and will add a tip to the instructions: 1) Fit window and cut all your shims before adding caulk. 2) Buy additional rubber foam. The windows have a small amount on both sides but I added more. I did the top as recommended in the instructions. I also added Rubber foam inside the bottom edge of the window ledge before installing the window. 3) After shimming the windows I used spray foam to seal remaining gaps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice for the price I have installed 4 of these windows in my house so far. I was originally looking at a lot more expense windows and having them installed but decided to try and install these myself and save big buck, it worked! Installing these windows was easy! It took about 1 to 1 ½ hours to install each window and I am very pleased with the results. If you are a do it yourself kind then you should have no problem, it seem intimidating, but it's really easy. The windows are nice well-made windows. I replaced the original 60 year old wood single pain windows and immediately noticed a difference. Not only in temperature but in noise. These windows really block a lot of sound too. When I first started the project I went and got one of the 1200 series window’s only because they were on the shelf at the store. I am thinking about replacing it with one of the 8500 window like the others and taking this one back. The 8500 series just seems to be a little more beefy all around, with nice little touches like better laches screen laches and a lot smother window operation. The 3 that I order online ship to my house very quickly and were packed very well. I did have one that arrived with a broken latch for the tilt feature on top of the window. I went back to the store a told them what happen gave them my name and number and they had them ordered for me the same day. They are getting shipped to my home(easy!). Over all I am very pleased! Bang for the BUCK is HUGE!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Windows I installed these windows in my mothers home early last fall. And the difference it made during the winter was amazing. She wanted to buy new windows and I was elected by her to go with her to make sure she got the right ones and I told her that the higher the series number the better the window. I like them and she likes them. Very easy to clean and operate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from American Craftsmen Replacement Window Awesome! We are average "do it yourselfers" trying to update cost effectively and desperately need to replace all the windows in our home. My hubby and I replaced our first window using the American Craftsmen brand. We were very pleased withe the ease of installation and the immediate improvement we noticed (our windows are 40+ yrs old and single pane). Included instructions were helpful and very easy to understand. We have no drafts, no leaking, and the window adds a fresh clean look. The Home Depot staff were extremely helpful in obtaining the correct size and made sure we had the correct type of window for the room we were doing. They asked questions I didn't even know about when choosing a window! - Thanks so much

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific value We just replaced all the windows in our sunporch with these windows. We shopped around and most quotes were much higher, a couple were over $300 per window. When we found these in the exact size we needed, we were thrilled. They're now installed and we couldn't be happier. And our contractor was impressed with the quality and great looks, not to mention the price of the windows. He was also happy that he didn't have to make any structural changes since we were in a time crunch, We live in Northern WY where the winters can be brutal and thanks to these great windows we are looking forward to finally being able to use this space when the weather gets cold.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It could have been a great buy except for the poor assembly two of the windows were slightly bent on the frame as the ties were too tight. The biggest problem was that of the seven windows I ordered only two were fully assembled, on five of them the lower pane was just floating on the channel and it took a long time to figure out how to install it so that the lower part would work properly, I almost returned them.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not better or best, but good! If you are on a tight budget and want to buy weatherstripping separately rather than buy a better window, these windows are good! For a rental property or apartment complex, they are builder grade. Google online for more info. I have bought and installed these for several of my customers and they were pleased. DO NOT buy the foam in a can unless it is the blue can designed for doors and windows because any other will expand too much, bind up the window and void the lifetime warranty. Installation is just as important as the quality of the window. You should be able to get professional installation for about $75-85 per window so you might want to reconsider doing this yourself, especially if you have to remove and dispose the old one. These windows can be ordered to comply with the tax credit requirements if you upgrade them. Check at the Millworks Desk for more info. They are very helpful, or call a window installation company which can be found on Google by typing in replacement windows and your city. .
