We have now replaced 18 windows in our house. 16 of the 18 installs went well. However, the last two windows we purchased were missing the head expander (or cap) piece upon purchase. We did not know this until the day of the actual install after we had 2 big holes in the side of our house waiting to slip the windows into place. Since Home Depot did not have extra head expander pieces, and after many phone calls and several trips to local stores that specialize in windows, we found a local window installer who had a few extra head expanders laying around that we were able to purchase. My recommendation: Make sure you check the package for all pieces when you get it home so you don't run into this same problem!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by CenTex Good window for the price
Over the past year, I have purchased 4 of these windows in various sizes. They are very easy to install and look good.
I like that they have an outside screen that covers the entire window, not just the bottom as some other windows do.
The only downside is that they seem to transmit a lot of outside noise. Especially for being a double pane insulated window. I can live with this since I live in a small quiet town, but I can hear the train when it comes through about 1 mile away. With that said, they are far superior to the old wooden single pane windows they are replacing on our 1929 home.

Bought and installed about 20 windows in my home from American Craftsman, of those probably 8 need replacing. Most of those are because over time the glass gets 'etched' markings making it difficult to even see out of. I've had 2 where the window hinges that allow you to open inward to clean have broken off. To clean these now I need to go outside because you can't get the windows re attached after they are flipped inward. They don't seal worth a darn either. They look nice (if the glass isn't etched) and if you are replacing rotted 1920's windows they will offer a benefit but they are junk in the long run. Spend a bit more and get better quality. I regret buying these and of course the etching thing happen after the 90 day return policy. JUNK!

I installed 2 of these windows to replace rotted out wood windows in our Lakefront home. They Look great and seal well and easy to clean with the tilt out feature. It is my hope that the vinyl will be a long term solution to the effects of being close to the water. I will be replacing another 3 windows and intend to use these windows as well. American Craftsman thanks for a great product.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by NWoak Excellent reasonably priced window
The window arrived safely in a massive plywood crate. It has all the features you'd like in a window, release the bottom pane for removal (easy cleaning the outside of window) built in security stops to limit the amount it can be raised. Good quality for the price.

Love the built in J-channel - 1 less step. Very nice vinyl window to work with compared to others for the money - Glad Home Depot offers an Andersen - nice local company - made in USA!
