Answer:
The top is open, except for the vinyl. Two cross-bars (shaped like upside down Us) are inserted into the tubular legs of the side panels and then the heavy vinyl is placed on top. The vinyl is attached by inserting closed-loop bungee fasteners through grommets. There is no wire across the top.

Yes, it is open at the top without the tarp. I covered mine with chicken wire then put the tarp over the top of it as I use mine for my cat. Didn't want him to have any means of escape...
Best wishes with your project.

I used zip ties to attach pieces of non-slip rug pads to the shelves, so the cats have something secure to sit on that also dries quickly. One cat adjusted to the flap within 24 hrs; the other cat was comfortable with it with 48. (Photo shows cat flap temporarily installed in thick insulation, but my husband is installing it into wood.) I hung a piece of burlap over one section to provide shade. The cats are thrilled with their new space and lounge about in it for hours on end! Read Less

Absolutely. See my answer to Lynda. All of the wall panels and the door panel are the same dimensions and simply bolt together with brackets.

Answer:
I don't think this provider has the walkway you are seeking. I've seen people create their own using wire fencing and even large flexible, drainage pipe. Search "catio" in google images for ideas.

I did wind up cutting a hole in the back, I used Lineman's wire cutting pliers to do this with but it wasn't hard. You wouldn't even need a "catwalk," like I built on mine if your window was right next to it.

Absolutely! I built a "catwalk" from my laundry room window right to the enclosure. I put a cat door there. See photos. I did this three years ago, everything has held up really well.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 36 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by High Quality and Easy to Put together! Not for a big dog in my opinion. If it's not anchored to the ground, a large dog will knock it over. The quality is good and it was super easy and quick to put together. We use it as a temporary kennel when we visit my folks. It looks nice and gives our dog a nice quiet place to hangout when he needs some rest from all the family fun. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for indoor cats to be outside safely. I bought this kennel for my indoor cat so she can spend time outside on the second floor deck without jumping off or climbing onto the roof (she has more energy than she knows what to do with). I added a shelf about 3 1/2 feet up so she can see over the railing and now it's perfect, she spends hours outside and begs to go out. The only other change I made was using duct tape to seal off the gap between the top bar of the end walls and the vinyl top (my cat figured out how to squeeze through them to escape) but it was an easy fix. Lastly, we've had about 16" of rain and up to 30mph winds, the kennel shows no sign of rust and hasn't moved an inch, the construction seems to be very high quality. July 12, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good purchase I am quite pleased with this animal shelter that I can use for my dog and or a few chickens. I like the safety latch that locks in place and the easy use of opening and closing the door. July 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Kennel, Easy to assemble So far so good. I got this over the labor day weekend. I had to take away a star because one of the panel fencing was somewhat bent out of the package, but it wasn't enough damage for me to go to the trouble of repacking and returning. Overall, the product seems great quality for the cost. It was easy to assemble. I did it myself in less than an hour. With another person to help hold up the panel corners, I bet I could reassemble this in under 30 mins. My dog seems to like it, I like the roof top and bungee attachments, very durable and easy to install. I would recommend this to any dog lover who wants a quality shelter for a good price. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect for our cats! We bought this kennel for our 2 indoor cats who constantly love to escape to the outdoors. Now they can be outside and safely contained. It was easy to put together and is sturdy. We have no worries that they will escape. We added some milk crates attached to the bars with cable ties and put rug remnants on top of crates so they now have places to perch at different levels making the kennel bigger and more interesting. A perfect kitty cottage! June 3, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product You Can Adapt as Needed I purchased this to make an outdoor space for my indoor cat, complete with a cat door and outdoor catbox (yay!). This worked like a champ. Some say it's "not six feet tall," and is a little short. Easily, very easily remedied. I build four foot square base for it out of 2 x 10's and mounted it on that (attached is a photo of the base while I was building it). I put small mesh screen around the bottom of the enclosure to keep other harmful critters out. Wha-laa. This was super easy to assemble, took all of about thirty minutes once I made and painted my base box. Now I'm putting stuff in there for him like a wood stump to scratch on, shelves to sit on, and even a piece of lawn turf. Cool product, this is. Really recommend it for anybody who wants to provide a good, secure and shaded place for their pet outdoors. July 27, 2013
