Questions & Answers

can you put the door on a different wall what gauge wire

Asked by: moose
No, with this kit the door is in one place alone, the bigger kits looks like you can have the door in two or three different areas depending on the setup.

Dimensions

The title states 6ft. x 10ft. x 6ft. but under the Specs dimensions it shows no 10ft. dimension. Depth is listed as 74.875" and then H and W are listed at 72". 10ft should obviously be listed as 120". How large is this kennel?

Can 2 of the kits be combined to make a 16'x16' enclosure with 2 gates?

Asked by: Bill
Yes you can. I did it. It just takes a bit of creativity. We made ours into an L shape. The only additional hardware we got were these u shaped things readily available at the fencing section at Home Depot to hold it to the garage since we opt to have one side not fenced in (because it's up against the garage). Otherwise, we used up most of the items provided in both kits.

There are so many mixed reviews. Will this be strong enough to hold a playful energetic 8month pitbull?

Asked by: Help
Yes I have a 4 month old german shepherd.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from do not buy chain link is a tangled mess and this is the second one I've had to deal with like this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Defective product I purchased this kennel and the tarp roof for it also from Home Depot last year. It was very easy to assemble, and seemed like a good buy. But when the first breezy storm happened here in Mesa, Az. After I assembled it, the welds broke in the middle of the kennel itself. Any wind at all will severely damage this kennel and shows that it is not made for outside use with the roof installed. I have no way of transporting it back to Home Depot to return. I have never been this disappointed in any other purchase I have ever made in my life. It should have been constructed better and sturdier, or a warning should be put on the box telling every one it is not for outdoor use.

Not quite as heavy duty as some of the preassembled panels I've bought before, but less expensive and good enough for outdoor use on my 65 lb dog. Very easy to assemble with only a screwdriver, wrench & pliars. Box is pretty heavy- entire kit fits in single box. Assembly tip- it's easiest with 2 persons. Buy some heavy duty tie-wraps in advance. One person stretch chain link, other attaches temporarily with tie wraps. THen go back through and install the permanent wire ties at a more leisurely pace. Total time to set up was about 45 minutes, with another 45 min twisting on all of the wire ties

We had some trouble untangling the chain link because the ends were not crimped properly so the edges of the chain link are a little uneven. We used 12" zip ties instead of the metal ties provided and the job went much better. IF you want a 6 ft x 10 ft x 6 ft pen this will do a good job holding dogs. HOWEVER, we bought 3 of these with the idea of building an 18 ft x 10 ft x 6 ft pen. The prewelded corners do not allow this. The current configuration makes expansion very problematic. The unit could be made expandable by eliminating the 90 degree welded corner connections at each corner and adding a tube to make panels. The panels could than be connected to make different sized kennels using available chain link panel connectors.

Use it to keep bears out of the trash. The old one was destroyed by a bear. Some improvements and some compromises from the old one. Compromises: Chain link is made from smaller gage wire and not well made at the ends. Spent some time untangling and repairing the ends. Frame tubes are smaller diameter. Chain link tension is resisted only by 2 screws holding the door assy in place which could loosen and slide. Improvements: Tube sections have clamping screws instead of relying on tension in chain link to hold everything together. Steel wires are used to tie chain link to frame instead of aluminum. Powder coating instead of galvanized. Time will tell on the finish. Used a section of the old chain link as a roof to make it more bear proof.

The instructions were pretty much straight forward and the frame assembled easily, taking about an hour. However, just untangling the wire mesh took 3 times longer than it did to assemble the frame. The hooks at the ends of the wires at top and bottom (pickets) tend to snag with each other and untangling them was a long tedious effort. The problems didn't end there. Apparently during the wire mesh manufacturing process, some of the individual wires (about a dozen) were inserted incorrectly into the mesh with some being too high and others too low. It took a couple of hours to remove them and reinsert them correctly. Eventually, the job was done, it looks good and is sturdy enough, but I'm not a happy camper with all the wasted time that was expended on messing around with the wire mesh on this kennel.

I needed this kennel for my two poms to play in, i have two larger yard dogs that i didnt want jumping on them the kennel is big enough for them to get plenty of exercise. I have had this now for three weeks and so far it has withstood some heavy rain and wind !!

We purchased this kennel as a chicken run and found it to be a great value. Assembly took 2 hours with 2 people and no snafus. You need to follow the directions carefully (like methodically checking all the edge links for tangles before you hang the chain), but the instructions are clear and well written. IMPORTANT TIP YOU WILL THANK ME FOR: buy a packet of 100 8-inch cable ties (those zippy things) and assemble the entire kennel using them before you use the metal wires included. This makes hanging the fence 1000 times faster and easier. If you want added security, you can then go back and affix the wires at your own pace without wrestling with the fencing. We didn't bother, because the plastic ties are plenty secure for chickens. I think this kennel was a great deal, especially with free shipping (the package is heavy!!)
