First off this is not typical quality from American Standard and the designer should be fired! The quality is poor, lots of flimsy plastic. It did install easy but uninstalled even easier as it went back two days later. It was held up by the fitting that attached to the shower head pipe and the piece that goes on the wall was either suction cup or double faced tape= CHEESY!!! The diverter valve leaks all over, the fitting where the tube meets the plastic adapter leaks over all very displeased. Like I said in the title DONT waste your money.

This item, for $88, is a great value. As some reviewers have pointed out, it is plastic, not metal but don't allow that to deter you. The key is to not use tools to assemble this shower device, hand tightening (using the teflon tape and seals provided) will do the trick. I used a wet washcloth to give the fittings the final seating, but no tools.
You should note that this device allows for EITHER the top or hand-held shower to flow, not both. My reason for purchasing was to provide a safely-reachable hand-held shower so that my 10 year old daughter could better rinse her hair. Then, for general showering, a quick turn of the valve returns the flow back up top. Both shower heads are adjustable, too.
I have a smooth surface, so I used the suction cup but an adhesive pad is provided for those who have a surface such as rough tile. The only modification I made was to remove the plastic pad from the suction cup before adhering to the wall, which I prepared by cleaning with isopropyl alcohol prior to sticking it to the wall. There is also a small valve that ensure adhesion. And, of course, you'll want to make sure the unit is plumb before you stick it.
Follow the directions and you'll be pleased with your results.

This is the perfect solution for turning your showerheads that are extra tall into both a showerhead and a usable hand sprayer (but not at the same time) It is the only model I could find where the diverter valve is at the bottom rather than at the the top. We have showerheads that are mounted very high on the wall. Every other option had the diverter up at the showerhead where no one but a giant could reach it. It was very reasonably priced, has lasted for a year in both my bathroom and my two teenagers bathrooms Plumber was going to have to rip my wall apart and add a diverter. This product saved me many hundreds of dollars (thousands?) in remodeling.

It was my fault for not checking the ratings before purchase, but with a name like "American Standard" I thought the quality would at least be average. Not so. It made of lightweight plastic parts that have peel and stick adhesive to mount to the shower wall. Assembly is fast and easy without any tools needed, but as a dedicated do-it-yourself handyman, drilling a hole or turning a wrench is no problem. Cheap made shower hardware that falls apart after only a few days is a big problem. Buyer Beware!

I remodeled my parents bathroom in January 2014 and installed a disability friendly shower. I purchased this showerhead combo to allow my disabled father to use his shower chair and my mother to use the same shower without putting the handheld out of my fathers reach. Biggest waste of money EVER! It is now only 8 months after installing the shower head and every single joint on the unit is spewing water at such a rapid rate that a 5 minute shower is cold 2 minutes in. Worst of all, the 90 day return period was already up before the unit started to malfunction so I have to buy a new shower head AND I am out the $88 for the first one I purchased.
