They are generally plastic so that if they fall out of your hands it won't chip the finish on the sink.

Is it made of metal or plastic?

Asked by: GregSQL
OK so THIS is confusing.. American Standard answers this question with, "yes, this faucet has plastic part." and a community answer is "all metal parts." So perhaps AS AND the community answer could be more specific about which parts are plastic and which are metal??!!

I purchased this faucet for my laundry because it is stainless steel and not too high so that it would splash too much with the very deep laundry tub. It looks nice and seems to work well. HOWEVER---- no place in the literature or American Standard website or Home Depot description does it mention that the faucet will only turns 90 degrees to the left. I thought maybe it was installed wrong so I called the 800# and was told that was the way it is designed. It's OK in my single tub laundry sink, but would be an a major inconvenience in a kitchen with any type of double sink or double tub installation. It would be helpful if this was made very clear in the description.

I have had the faucet for about 3 weeks and so far the faucet is great and leak free. I wish the spout was a little higher, but overall the faucet exceeded my expectations. Great flow, too!

The single hole install ring with 3 jamb screws makes easy work of tightening the faucet. The instructions did not call for sealer - but when I called the 800 support number, American Standard support suggested putting clear silicone sealer into the groove of the clear plastic putty insert under the base plate. My 50 year old Delta faucets were so corroded that I could not even remove the under sink bolts using an impact driver. So I ended up drilling the bolts out by drilling through the top plate above of the faucet. Under my sink is very crowded with multiple plumbing lines. I added a thin aluminum guy wire to guide the ballast weight up and down and prevent it from hanging up on the pipes.

We had a plumber install it. Pros: the sprayer seats firmly and stays in place (weight works well) - the faucet swivels smoothly from side to side - the water can be turned off at any temperature position - the curve of the faucet is nice and high. Cons: the sprayer sometimes stays on when you release the button/sometimes not - the hand-held portion of the unit is plastic that looks like metal (though it still has a sturdy feel) - the metal is not brushed & shows water spots easily - some concerns that in the future the swivel function will "gunk up" because water splashes around the swivel base all the time, at least the way people in this house use the sink (though I do try to wipe it off whenever I notice it wet).

I bought this faucet 8 months ago to replace a old faucet that had begun to leak. What a mistake! This new faucet is now leaking worse than the old faucet that had been in the house before we moved in over ten years ago. I have read other reviews on other websites that describe similar consumer experiences with this same faucet. Bottom line, save your money and buy some faucet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaking within two months from purchase/install Easy to install and worked perfectly for two months, when it developed a leak at the base of the handle. It seems that the factory needs to beef-up the QA/QC program.
