Answer:
A toilet drain flange gasket is needed between the steel drain pipe flange and the base of the toilet. A standard wax ring gasket will work in most bathrooms, but sometimes they're not thick enough.
There are a few premium gaskets available from HD that will suffice for any toilet in any bathroom. Any of these gaskets are good for any floor thickness, but are specially suited for extra thick floors:

If you are replacing an existing/previous toilet, then almost certainly the 3/8" o.d. flexible tubing/hose that supplies fresh water to the tank will have to be replaced because it will come up a couple inches short of the inlet fitting on the bottom of the tank on this new toilet.

I recommend using the translucent (clear-white) polyethylene tubing available from HD, instead of the old steel braided rubber hose, which is obsolete and more prone to eventual bursting (When nobody is home!). Its i.d. is 1/4", and its od. is 3/8". Unfortunately it comes in a 25' roll and you will only need about 10-12" length. See Watts Model # SPGE25 (Store SKU # 301762). Read Less

What you described is called the "rough-in" dimension. The manufacturer (American Standard) gives this as nominal 10" in their <.pdf> document. However, that document contains an inaccurate and misleading drawing of the toilet, which is like a generalized drawing of any toilet. You can find a link to that document at the HD web page for this model after clicking on the tab 'More Info'.

I've measured the ACTUAL dimension from a bolt hole on the bowl's base to the rear edge of the tank's cover to be 9 3/4". So if the centerline of your toilet drain pipe is located exactly 10" from the bathroom wall, this toilet will clear that wall with a 1/4" space. Read Less

Answer:
You'll need a wax ring and a round toilet seat. If this is your first time I'd suggest watching a few youtube videos first to help eliminate surprises. In Fla. these with 10 inch rough-in are only available on line but with the free shipping it only took about a week and it was delivered to my home.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great toilet - terrible QC This was a replacement toilet that needed to be a 10 in. rough in. It was shipped to my home with no problem. It installed easily but after a day or so I found that the toilet bowl was not level to the tile/concrete floor. It leaned almost 1/2 inch to the right. I took it back to the local Home Depot and they were able to replace it with another American Standard Cadet 3 that was close to what was originally order, but actually cheaper. It was the only model in stock at the Home Depot with a 10 in. rough in. The second toilet installed even easier, was level and works great. This is my second American Standard toilet and they work great, but this is also the second time I've had Quality Control issues with American Standard - not a good record in my book. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by attractive base I really like the smooth lines of this toilet. It fits beautifully into a very small bathroom, and allows the chair height I wanted without taking up the room of an "extended" toilet. The height of the tank is several inches lower than the one removed, requiring a little spackling and paint, and the tank sits out from the wall about 3 inches. At first I thought that aspect looked odd, but I've quickly gotten used to it. The flush is great, takes seconds to refill the tank. I haven't owned it long enough to rate its durability. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well I am pleased with my toilet, I do wish American standard used metal for the flush handle and rod as opposed to plastic, since I have found the plastic ones just don't hold up. I have installed numerous toilets so this was no problem, but if one was unfamilar it may have been a little trickier since there wasn't very good graphics as to which way to install the seal between the tank and stool. The sale price and free delivery were excellent it saved me about 70mi of travel, and made the tall toiler affordable January 10, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product, good delivery, easy to install I had to reorder this toilet after I had already purchased a standard sized unit at the local HD store. Rough-in size makes a difference.... It arrived within a week and was packed very well. It was a snap to install. All of the in-tank plumbing was included, but had to purchase a seat/lid, supply line & wax seal. Overall, the unit is small by comparison to many models, but fits great in a tight space. Not a good choice for bigger bodies. I'm very satisfied and happy to have my second bathroom functioning again!!! December 26, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Height & Strong Flush This toilet came with everything installed. The fill valve lock nut was damaged and the flush seal wasn't tight or lubed. Also, the tank is very small. Too small to insulated it (to prevent sweating) and to put any other kind of fill valve in it except the tower style. Other than those problems, it is a nice toilet to put in a small bathroom. In fact, this was the only high quality, 16.5" rim height, round bowel toilet with a 10" rough in I could find. June 10, 2011
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good quality but... I had to order this toilet online because you could not buy a 10 in rough in the store. It is a good quality product but did not come with a seat and lid as was shown in the picture online. Guess I should have read the description better. It has a very small tank which makes me wonder if it will have enough water to flush a "large deposit". I do like the height but wish it was an oblong instead of the round. All in all, a good toilet just a few minor inconviences. October 9, 2012
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good but better available Installed this toilet yesterday after installing a couple of the competitor's models. I was not all that impressed with the Cadet system which still uses a flapper. You need to push and hold the handle slightly in order to get it to flush. It's a little bit noisier than it's competitor. Flush "power" seems to be the same. If you can go with the competitor you will be better off. But this toilet is much better than the 80's water savers. August 29, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by An Impressive Toilet? I did'nt think I could ever be impressed by a toilet but, not having alot of choices in a 10" rough in, I chose this. I've only had old, high volume toilets with a high level of water in the bowl. After using for a couple weeks now, it's still surprising the power and speed that this thing flushes! When I do my next bathroom I will surely look at this American Standard toilet line again. July 8, 2011
