I bought two of these to replace both of the old American Standard toilets in the house. The old ones used a lot of water and took forever to flush, the bowl would fill with water and then very slowly the water would start to spiral and finally flush. The new American Standard Cadet 3 toilets flush quickly and use a lot less water.
The picture shows the toilet when I first installed it, it did not come with a toilet seat.
Also the old toilet tanks were 21" wide, the new ones are about 17.5" wide. Likely because the tank holds less water. I like the narrow tank, it looks better.
The only complaint is that one of the two that I bought, one of them didn't have the bag of parts with the mounting screws/nuts and the plastic cap covers. I have tried to get a replacement from American Standard customer service but no luck so far. I bought a generic set so I could install the second toilet, but the ones that come with it from American Standard have a nice triangle shaped plastic nut that you can screw on with just your hand, and a nice larger than usual plastic cap that is good quality. I want that one instead of the cheap $3 part that I had to buy to finish the install.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by vernj Hard to clog but...
This beast is hard to clog but the the quality of the flush handle and fill valve leave a lot to be desired. I have 4 of these units. Two at home and two in by summer home. So far the flush handle has failed in 3 of the four units. Inside of the fill valve the water restrictor has failed in 2 of the units and the fill valve on one unit failed today.
Inside of the fill valve tube there is a restrictor that makes the filling more silent. After awhile this collapses and slows down the fill markedly. Took me awhile to figure this one out but the fix is simple. Disconnect the waterline and take a old fashioned corkscrew, yes I said a corkscrew, and thread it into the bottom of the fill valve. Push up while turning. When you feel you have 'bit' into something pull down. It will be a bit hard but pull the restrictor out and deep six it. Connect the waterline and your back in business.
Replace the flush handles with good quality units. The cheap plastic ones don't last. I spent about $18 each when I replaced the failed units.
A Fluidmaster 400A is the same fill valve (less the water restrictor) that American Standard puts in these units. I replaced the top of the valve without replacing the entire valve. Problem solved. Read the instructions that come with the Fluidmaster, as they explain how to remove the top of the valve.

Excellent flushing ability, easy install per contractor. Beautiful lines for a toilet (non ADA compliant). Got this on a HD Christmas special for $160 (20%) off. Lowe's price was $280 at the time!

The Cadet 3 is American Srandard's answer to Toto Drake, but at a lower price. I have no complaints but I do have extremely hard water which leaves mineral deposits, and every toilet I've had would get sluggish after a few months. I used to blame the toilets until I learned about the wonders of regular maintenance with Muriatic Acid, which is cheaper than a new toilet.
If you find the flush getting weaker and have hard water try scraping out the siphon hole in the bottom of bowl opposite the exit tube. Mine clogs occasionally with calcium and grit, and it really affects the flushing action. Now I empty out most of the water from the bowl and pour in a cup or two of acid, letting it sit for an hour or so. Don't breathe the fumes. Just thought I'd pass that along.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by danny good product easy install
I purchased three of these and I wish I had purchased a fourth for when we finish off the basement. Great Flush!!! 1.6 gal. and the three inch hole totally works. Easy install good instructions nice finish and good seat height. Hardest part was getting out the old ones. FYI Habitat for Humanity will take your old ones and you'll get a tax write off for it.

Looks to me that the base is the same as the Cadet 4. This toilet is suppose to move 1000 grams of mass which is higher than the Cadet 4. Great toilet. I replaced the 3 in my house with this model. I had one base that was missing the nuts to hold the studs in place when setting the toilet. The no tools needed design really does work well.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by EricL Horrible bowl cleaning. Does not clean the sides of the bowl.
This toilet looks great and is comfortable.
The problem is that it does not clean the sides of the bowl. A simple piece of toilet paper on the side of the bowl will not get flushed.
Contact American Standard (I did). They will say that the toilet is not designed to clean the side of the bowl! Crazy right?
I am returning my two bowls today.
