Customer Questions & Answers

Does the American Std Cadet Shower Faucet (Home Depot # 138-283) have "stems" in the box or do they have to be purchased separately?

Asked by: Anonymous
The plastic stems are in the box. They say these are ceramic, but if they are, it is very little ceramic held together by a lot of plastic. Mine leaked.

Are extensions available? I am going through a thick wall.

Asked by: Anonymous
None seen. While they state that this is a deep rough-in valve, it is not.

Can this valve-set be used in a reversed flow direction, i.e. as a diverter valve directing water from one source to two shower heads?

Asked by: mgv
No, the unit cannot be used in the manner described.

Customer Reviews

Cadet Double-Handle Tub and Shower Faucet in Chrome is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Tiny internal passages. The finish and valving and price are all fine. The problem is that the internal diverter mechanism - a restrictor that balances pressure to the tub (rather than to the showerhead) under normal use - is a plastic insert in the center of the valve body. It restricts the passages so much that it is VERY sensitive to any particles in the water. If you have an old home with old steel pipes, rust or lime scale from a water heater or the pipes themselves will plug it up. The only way to get the restrictor out to clean it is through the TOP of the casting. That means taking it out of the wall. In most cases that's nearly impossible without removing drywall or plaster. Not recommended for retrofits where this might be a problem.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Plastic, Leaks Product looks good and installs easily; however, it leaked out of the box. Pulling the valves and putting some grease on the seals did not fix the leak. New valves are not kept in stock, online order. Handles are functional, but they are all plastic and feel that way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like it so far! Had it installed, so really shouldn't comment on that. Looks great, matches my bathroom sink faucet. Not expensive at all. Not a lot to choose from in double handle tub faucets!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product for the price Great product. Just be careful to go through the package. the hot and cold indicators and in a small package. Just don't forget to install it. I used it and it very easy to control the water temperature and pressure. Great Prodcut. Will recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No water pressure Dont't waste your money. This is a poor design on this product. Wants you get it installed, you do not have enough water pressure to fill a tub. I am packaging it back up to get my money back from Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice I purchased this for a bathroom remodeling project, and it was a beautiful choice. The handles are smooth and nicely shaped. The shower head is smaller in diameter, but offers a powerful spray.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value Needed a new valve (w/lever or criss cross handles) Everything these days are plastic. Not this set !! The valve was a premium quality and the handles (metal) are superb !! Had to be installed by a plumber. No adapters connected to valve so this unit had to be soldered. Was not an easy task. Not complaining though, as this is exactly what I wanted. The cost was exceptionally reasonable.
