How do I know if I need a left drain or a right drain in a tub I purchase?

Asked by: buzzard444
It depends on where the drain is, or will be, in your current bathroom. One side of the tub is finished, which is to say , skirted, where the long part of the tub faces the room. The other side of the tub goes against the wall, where you can't see it, and is open, without a skirt. There is a flange that goes around the top of the tub, around the sides that will be the wall, and your surround goes down over top of that flange. If your tub is meant to go in the middle of the room, where all sides will be exposed to sight, you need a different type tub, that is skirted all around, or one that is meant to drop in and have a skirt built around it.

My wife is a happy woman and she said after 20 minutes it was still warm. I would highly recommend this tub for anyone wanting a deep soak tub with Heat retention.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT TUB!!! I had looked around over several weeks ro pick the best tub for a reasonable amount of money (under $600). I wanted the sturdiness of cast iron but did not want the weoght of carrying it up a few flights of stairs and trying to install it. (You always need to pull the tub in and out of position several times to get it right. ). Overall i am very impressed with this tub. Althought i have not bathed in it yet, the bathroom remodel is about two days away from being conpleted. (Im jist about burndt out amd the last 5% is tedious detail work). I regress... the tub is solid. I was concerned with some saying there was a hollow sound that the tub could make on the bottom so i shot two cans of Greay Stuff under the tub once it was set and fully secured with nails and properly shimmed. That tub is SOLID!! There is no thudding sound coming from it. I would definitely buy this tub again!

The edges are wide enough to place something on and not too sloped and it is DEEP! Also like the feel as it isn't acrylic and feels like a cast iron tub. We were really pleased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Feels like my old claw-foot tub! We bought this tub to replace our ghastly acrylic whirlpool tub with its crusty, impossible-to-clean jets. This is a true "soaking tub" and is as wide and deep as our old tub. I was especially pleased with the back-slope as it not only supports the shoulders, but is rounded just right behind your neck so you can relax with your head at a natural angle. The only other tub I've been in that was this comfortable to recline in was an antique claw-foot tub I used to have. The guys who installed the tub had no issues with it fitting into our standard 60 x 32" alcove. While it did take 3 of them to carry the tub safely up our stairs, they definitely appreciated that it not as heavy as cast iron. This tub looks very high end. The "Americast" material is nice and solid, with a beautiful shine. Best of all, it's soooooo much easier to clean than my old one. The only feature of this tub that I was not totally thrilled with was the look of the anti-slip treatment on the bottom. It consists of numerous dull, slightly rougher spots laid out in a harlequin pattern (picture a 10-of-diamonds playing card). These diamond spots do their job just fine. They provide sure footing when stepping in and out or showering and they are not uncomfortable to sit on (no sliding down toward the drain!) My concern was that they tend to grab grime and, even after being cleaned, telegraph visually as not being completely clean. The manufacturer included special instructions on how to clean the bottom so I imagine they've gotten this feedback before. I have the white tub. I'm not sure if this would be any different with the almond. Once I figured out that I was mainly seeing a difference in sheen, I got over it and now am very happy with this tub. Just be prepared that the bottom is not going to be as shiny and white as it is everywhere else.

Much better than the cheaper fiberglass or acrylic tubs and will maintain its finish much longer. We had to return our first installation attempt. The first tub had an unfinished backside surface that was damaged at the drain location. We ordered another tub and Home Depot refunded the original purchase without difficulty. The replacement tub had a much better, or semi finished backside surface and installed without any issues. We would definitely use his tub again and highly recommend it to new customers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Right decision I narrowed down to 3 American Standard models for my bathroom remodel -- Princeton, New Solar and Cambridge. Princeton is the first one out because it is too shallow and only 9" deep. I ordered New Solar because it is deep soaking tub and price is cheaper. However, it arrived damaged. After examining the tub, I found out it is very light and cheaply made. The quality is not good and no wonder it is cheaper than others. I immediately ordered the Cambridge. Arrived on time and in perfect condition. Just tab on the tub and you will know it is good quality and will last forever. You won't regret it.
