Toilet has a good flush, Easy to install. Had to tune it a little by taking some slack out of the chain and raising the water level to just below the overflow tube. That's why in other reviews they are holding down the handle to get a good flush, But this should be expected from weekend warriors thinking everything is plug and play. Lid has a little wobble but found the same thing in high end toilets. Overall American Standard did a nice job on this 1.6 flush , Not saying much for there 2007 models that were not so good and cost a lot more.

I broke the first tank, trying to install it on the bowl. The instructions were insufficient. A customer service representative explained that a very strong person needs to put huge downward force on the tank, while someone turns the nuts. It's just too easy to mess up. While waiting for a replacement tank, I could not understand why the gasket requires so much compression for a situation where the water is not under pressure, so I decided to try the next installation with a 3/16 inch ABS plastic sheet spacer between the tank and bowl, covering all china to china contact points, reducing the amount of compression needed on the gasket. I figured that, if it leaked, I could still re-install it. The spacer worked: no leaks. The manufacturer does not recommend this. I do recommend it. Now that I have it assembled, it works just fine.

We have had a Champion for several years, have a metal handle, now made of plastic. I had to change the internal parts and was told by the plumbing supply store American Standard coveted this under warranty but I was to late so I paid for repair part.

We put two of theses toilets in our last house and they were great. Our new house has Kohler toilets and they are just not as good as American Standard. For one thing the flapper cost to much and needs replacing to often.

We bought this toilet because the bowl in our previous American Standard was leaving stool adhered to the sides. Sadly, this toilet does the same thing. However, because of the specialized cleaning surface, I cannot immediately just go ahead and scrub the toilet, which I have been doing these past 8 years. This toilet can only be cleaned with a soft cloth. In a guest bathroom, stool sticking to the insides of the commode is just a real problem, and adding that there is no way for quick clean up, we are sorry we bought it and do not recommend it.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by parm Getting Rid of this Toilet Today!!!
My husband is a builder and sometimes brings home fixtures or appliances that clients are having replaced and they give to him. This happened with the American Standard 6.0Lpf/1.6gpf elongated toilet. I have been suffering with this toilet for years, but today a plumber is coming to remove and replace it! The toilet looks perfectly nice, no trouble with that aspect. However appearance is the only pro. Is is necessary to hold the handle down to flush solid waste. And this involves lengthy holding while you stand there and watch the contents swirling around. When it finally does flush, there are often the remains of the waste stuck to the sides of the bowl! I have had to clean this toilet way too many times! This does not happen with the other toilets in our home, or with any other toilets I have ever had, for that matter!. It happens to be in our powder room, so when company comes they do not realize its handle must be held for so long. When I enter the bathroom I often get a nasty surprise! If this toilet is supposed to save water, it does not since so much water is wasted with the endless flushing needed to get the waste to flush! So finally my husband listened to me and it is outta here! A new Kohler is being installed today! Perhaps this is why the original owners were replacing it?

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DJ A great and overdue upgrade!
After years of increasing water bills I finally got around to replacing our two old but very reliable 1946 dated Standard model 4054 toilets (5.3 gallons per flush). The online ordering process was great, the toilets arrived at my local Home Depot store about a week earlier than expected. Their condition and production quality seems great! I opted to have my plumber install them just in case there were any surprises changing out 70 year old originals and he installed them in no time at all with no surprises! In my opinion, they work surprisingly well, no clogs, no second flushes etc... and the slow close seat that came with mine is great! I'm looking forward (kinda) to my next water bill to see the difference in my household water usage and $ savings. It should be significant.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jenni Good toilet for price - prefer 1.6gpf works better than the 1.28gpf
I've bought the American standard champion elongated before for 2 other bathrooms I had redone, but wanted the round one for this bathroom - I like the 1.6 gpf - works beautifully - and the toilet was easily installed - I think it took me maybe 30 minutes all by myself - hardest part that took the longest was screwing the tank bolts on, positioning was a little awkward and harder than other toilets I've installed, but it looks nice and functions perfectly. This is the 7th bathroom I have redone and the 5th new toilet. I've used American Standard 3 times now - I like the self cleaning 1.6 gpf and the flushing power - noticing a big difference in the water bills.
