In the last few years I've purchased four (4) Champion 4 toilets (2 elongated and 2 rounded) from Home Depot to replace existing toilets in an older home. I love the technology and engineering which significantly mitigates clogging, and also has low water usage. I hate the quality assurance and manufacturing defects. One toilet, out of the box, had an inch streak where porcelain was missing (see attached photo).. I had it in the box sitting around for a couple of months before installing it, and it was too late to fill out the warranty card. The toilet now looks like it is never completely clean. I'm going to try a porcelain repair kit.
A second toilet I've had for a few years has been slowly leaking and getting worse the last year. First I replaced the rubber flipper seal, and that didn't solve the problem. Further careful investigation showed that water was seeping under the gasket where the flush valve connects to the bottom of the tank. After the tank was removed, the the indent on the flush valve seal shows that the flush valve was not centered when tightened, with one part of the gasket deeply indented away from the cylinder, and the other part with a slight indentation right next to the flush valve cylinder. There was not equal pressure around the seal so when one part of the seal gave way a little, it started to leak.. The flush valve is initially installed by the manufacturer. Needing to remove and re-install the tank to install a new flush valve was not fun, but the problem is now solved..

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DIY2 Flush valve leaks - NO REPAIR PARTS nor Home Depot support - buyers beware!
Bought two of the Champion 4 two-piece, right-height elongated white toilets from HD - first one in 2011 and second in 2012. The first one developed annoying leak in flush valve. Home Depot has NO PARTS to repair, and in fact, the HD retail rep (supposedly a plumber) wasted my time and recommended all the wrong remedies. No satisfaction by calling American Standard as this model made for big box stores is supposedly under warranty. Had to order parts via internet (NOT American Standard) to finally fix it.

Purchased 3 Champion 4 toilets in July of 2011. I registered all 3, which required the proof of purchase bar code off the box and sales receipt. One leaked & after a phone call they sent me repair parts. Within a few months a second developed a leak, another phone call & more parts arrived. Now the third one is leaking and the 1st. one repaired has started leaking again. Now American Standard will no longer honor the 10 year warranty unless I send them the original sales receipt, which was sent to them when the toilets were registered?

American Standard Champion 4 Max - indeed it is! I needed a new toilet recently when I remodeled my smallish bathroom and was told by the sales staff this little toilet was not only stylish and compact, it also packs a mighty flush! One press of the handle and the bowl is completely clear! Home Depot is the only store that stocks this model and, for the price, I am completely satisfied. Thank you Home Depot!

Nice toilet. Bought it because our old toilet was chronically plugging up. This unit performs well. Only problem is it had a manufacturing/quality control defect. The base of the unit should be ground flat. Ours was poorly ground and would not sit flat on a flat surface. Had to hand grind the unit for proper fit.
Next time I will unbox in the parking lot to inspect before driving home.

Finally made the plunge or at least the last one! This stool lives up to the claims. Should have done this sooner. Did replace the handle with a more stylish and better quality one. Love the soft close feature .

Had this toilet for 5 months and it started having problems. I did not have a fit issue like many others have said, but instead had to rebuild the entire internals. First the flush valve seal was ng, replaced under warranty by American standard after waiting for about a month for a 5 dollar part. Now just replaced the flush valve, instead of waiting for another month I purchased it from the local tractor store. home depot is 20 miles away. Less than half a year and multiple failures. As far as the flush valve seal kit they go bad so often that there is a video of the replacement procedure online. I bought this to replace a older inefficient model. This toilet is by far less efficient because it is constantly leaking. Not good for the well or septic. A waste of time and money.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wayner Great flushing toilet!
Installed a little over a month ago and never clogged once, unlike my 5 year old, builder installed low flow toilet which clogged weekly. It took longer to remove the old toilet than it did to install this new one. It did leak from one of the tank to bowl screws, so I disassembled the tank from the bowl, coated everything with vaseline and no more leaks. Only complaint is when I replaced the original slow closing plastic seat with a padded seat, due to the curved style of the tank, the padded seat will not stay up and falls down with a bang. By purchasing a flat style tank for my next bathroom that should alleviate that issue. It really is a great toilet and I highly recommend it!
