Customer Questions & Answers

I want this toilet with quite close toilet seat. Is it included? If not, What is product number?

Asked by: Anonymous
I love this toilet but I hate the quiet-close seat that came with it. It is without a doubt THE most uncomfortable toilet I have ever sat on. It causes pain. I had the toilet installed Sunday, I am having the seat replaced tonight, Tuesday.

I need to replace the toilets in my 50 seat restaurant. Would this model be a good one to use?

Asked by: Anonymous
No: simply because the toilet seat is not finished on the underside - there are four ridges, or bars, on the underside of the seat, rather than one smooth continued plastic underside. Trying to clean around all those ridges would be a nightmare for anyone designated the job!

DOes this toilet have a quiet flush?

Asked by: Anonymous
It is not whisper quiet but the flush is very fast and over with quickly. It does a thorough job of flushing and leaves the bowl clean.

is this commode higher then standard and how high is it

Asked by: Anonymous
Commode? If you mean the bowl height, it is about 16 and 3/8 inches. Commode is way too general of a term, maybe a little archaic? I would be happy to help if this is not the info your seek, please be specific.

I bought and installed a Champion 4 Max toilet 7 months ago, it worked great--until a CRACK in the tank from the flush handle down the front appeared! WHAT's UP WITH A CRACKING TANK?????!!!!! It's not leaking yet, but there's no way we're keeping this toilet! The crack is visible by touch and feel on both the inside and outside of the tank. FYI this toilet was located in a bathroom with low to moderate usage. Based on quick google search other AMERICAN STANDARD toilet tanks crack. Lets hope the company's customer service and 10-year warranty are more solid than the tank I purchased.

February 2017 I noticed a crack down front of tank about 2 inches inward from flush lever and extending 5 inches down the tank. There is evidence of a slow leak over time with mineral salt deposit running down below crack. This is apparently a systematic problem with this model as demonstrated by comments here and elsewhere on web. I will try to get a warranty replacement tank, as the replacement tank alone cost almost as much as the whole new toilet! I'll replace the whole toilet with another brand before I spend that much more on a clearly defective product.

After researching, it looked like in this price range the Kohler Cimarron and American Standard Champion 4 were comparable. I installed one of each for comparison. I thought they would probably be similar and I would choose the one that was slightly better for the 3rd toilet. I was very wrong. When I actually used it for the first time, the Cimarron clogged up and I had to flush 4 times and use a plunger. I have never had to use a plunger with the American Standard. To me, flushing capability is the most important factor and there is absolutely no comparison. I can't believe it but I'm actually going to try to return the Cimarron (can you return a used toilet??) and install two more American Standard Champion 4s. Some other minor differences that make this the winner: - American Standard came with a better wax seal that had a rubber inner ring. - American Standard was easier to install. On the Kohler, it's not clear how all of the parts should be used and I had to read the directions. On the Kohler, I also had to cut the mounting bolts off with a dremel because they were too long. For a toilet that I expect to last 20 years, these issues are minor but just more reasons why the American Standard was better. Some people have complained about the lids on both of these. They are "hollow" lids that are not made of solid material. I found both lids were comfortable and the advantage to the hollow lids is they have less thermal mass so they warm up faster and don't feel as cold as a solid lid. I also see some people complaining of cracked tanks. American Standard has a 10 year warranty. I intend to save receipts and take them up on this warranty. I have three toilets so it's not a big deal to have one shut down if it ever needs a warranty replacement.

I've had two of these toilet since 2012, I have never had an issue with them, both were installed in 2012, and then recently removed and reinstalled when I remodeled both of my bathrooms. I'm not sure about the complaints of cracking by the handle, but I will state that I did not use the provided handle, and instead purchased Moen handles in oil rubbed bronze to match the other fixtures in my bathroom. Perhaps the issue is the included handle and the installers torqueing down the bolt, the Moen handled I purchased have nylon threads and bolts so there is no way to over torque them, the toilet has performed fantastically for my family for 5 years, and frankly I expect another 5 years out of it. The reason I decided to leave a feedback today is because I was here looking for the replacement 4" flush valve assembly. I did notice that the flush valve has become encrusted with lime scale, and while I did attempt to soak in in CLR, it needs to be replaced before it starts leaking. This is not a problem with the toilet, but with the hard water in my area, I have lived in this city for 40 years and it is become common to have to replace the faucets and flush valves every 5-7 years due to the lime scale build up, even with a whole house filter and water softening system. Without the filtering replacement times are every 1-2 years. I have never experienced a clog and this toilet has lived up to my expectations.

If you don't want to cuss it though, mount it in the forward mount holes. Then you have something to grab on to when you want to lift it. I really don't like the slow motion. When I want to flush, I don't want to wait 15 sec. for the lid to close. I have always pushed it down. Don't understand why only half the tank empties when flushed. Leaving a bunch of water in the tank after flush serves no purpose to me. The antibacterial feature is only because of the glazed surface. No better than any other toilet. Scour/cleaning ability is only average even when you hold the lever down for a complete flush. This toilet is just average.

It is a good height, clean lines, and quick/powerful flush. HOWEVER, either the holes where the toilet seat attaches are not properly located or the seat is too small/narrow. I bought these toilets for two bathrooms and both have the same issue -- the comfortable, quiet closing seat is misaligned -- lining up on the right side of the ring, but leaving a gap on the left. It's bugging the heck out of me!! Photo attached.

First problem was the bottom did not sit level to floor due to excessive porcelain in middle support area. This month there is a crack on right side front of tank -opposite the spot where numerous other customers have cracks. Mine is leaking and has visible mold growing in the crack which is how it was noticed. The only think good about this model is that it Flushes. Past 90-day return- I need American Standard to stand behind their product defects.

Notice I said clean not clear. I have no doubt that it will flush those golf balls down the drain but it just doesn't clean the scuff marks (which can be embarrassing if guests are visiting). It takes another flush sometimes two which ends up not saving water. We do have a American Standard 1.6 purchased July '14 which does not have this problem. Guess it's my fault because at the time I said to my wife this toilet is really good maybe I should get another because I think the government is going to lower the flow again. Enough said!!!
