Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Henry Defective bowl, needs better quality assurance dept
I bought two Champion 4 Max toilets for my house. After installation, the next morning, I found water puddle on the floor. Ran to HD bought a new wax, carefully re-installed it to make everything line up correctly. Next morning found a water puddle again! Could not find any leak yet. Re-do the installation with the new most expensive one from HD with no wax. Next morning, same thing happened! This time I flipped over and examined very carefully and found one drop of water on underneath the bowl, so I took in the other new one and compared and realized the somebody at American Standard knew it was defective and patched it with glaze(See pic). The other non-leaky one had no patchy glaze at all. Their quality department should have never shipped this out. I was very angry after all the multiple lifting, and cleanings due very poor quality product. It was so hard to discover the problem because it was a very slow leak and well hidden under the bowl. I was extremely mad because somebody at American Standard knew the problem but tried to covered it up with glaze and hope it would work. I hope American Standard management look this review and pictures and take some actions. This is not acceptable. Removed a toilet for refund and exchange is no fun. Should've never shipped this out. I was very angry after all the lifting, and cleaning due very poor quality product.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DIY2 Flush valve leaks - NO REPAIR PARTS nor Home Depot support - buyers beware!
Bought two of the Champion 4 two-piece, right-height elongated white toilets from HD - first one in 2011 and second in 2012. The first one developed annoying leak in flush valve. Home Depot has NO PARTS to repair, and in fact, the HD retail rep (supposedly a plumber) wasted my time and recommended all the wrong remedies. No satisfaction by calling American Standard as this model made for big box stores is supposedly under warranty. Had to order parts via internet (NOT American Standard) to finally fix it.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by cece93 Excellent upgrade from our standard toilet.
Very easy set up, needed some flat wood strips to help stabilize it after it was installed. All the items needed to install (outside of our own tools) is included in this purchase. I wanted it for a water savings on the flush and fill up. Has a super quick flush and is a very sturdy toilet. The seat is very narrow, so it feels kind of different when sitting on it - it does take some time to get used to. Also, if you don't sit back far enough, you will flush multiple times to get the waste to fully empty from the pot. Keep a toilet cleaner near by because you will use it after flushing waste - it doesn't clean off as well as the commercials would like you to believe it does. Overall, it is a great purchase and 100 times better than the standard ones you purchase with the home. I am anxious to see my water bill to see if I can notice a savings yet just from the toilet upgrade. OH - and I must mention the non-slamming lid for the seat too! It will never pinch any fingers or startle you with a slamming shut sound. It's super slow and quiet as it closes by itself :)

Awesome product that appears quality and has the flushing power to do the job the first time. The slow closing lid is slow enough to photograph several times on the way down keeping it nice and quiet.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ruletrader Missing porcelain out of the box, and leaky toilet required removal of tank to fix
In the last few years I've purchased four (4) Champion 4 toilets (2 elongated and 2 rounded) from Home Depot to replace existing toilets in an older home. I love the technology and engineering which significantly mitigates clogging, and also has low water usage. I hate the quality assurance and manufacturing defects. One toilet, out of the box, had an inch streak where porcelain was missing (see attached photo).. I had it in the box sitting around for a couple of months before installing it, and it was too late to fill out the warranty card. The toilet now looks like it is never completely clean. I'm going to try a porcelain repair kit.
A second toilet I've had for a few years has been slowly leaking and getting worse the last year. First I replaced the rubber flipper seal, and that didn't solve the problem. Further careful investigation showed that water was seeping under the gasket where the flush valve connects to the bottom of the tank. After the tank was removed, the the indent on the flush valve seal shows that the flush valve was not centered when tightened, with one part of the gasket deeply indented away from the cylinder, and the other part with a slight indentation right next to the flush valve cylinder. There was not equal pressure around the seal so when one part of the seal gave way a little, it started to leak.. The flush valve is initially installed by the manufacturer. Needing to remove and re-install the tank to install a new flush valve was not fun, but the problem is now solved..

American Standard Champion 4 Max - indeed it is! I needed a new toilet recently when I remodeled my smallish bathroom and was told by the sales staff this little toilet was not only stylish and compact, it also packs a mighty flush! One press of the handle and the bowl is completely clear! Home Depot is the only store that stocks this model and, for the price, I am completely satisfied. Thank you Home Depot!

Nice toilet. Bought it because our old toilet was chronically plugging up. This unit performs well. Only problem is it had a manufacturing/quality control defect. The base of the unit should be ground flat. Ours was poorly ground and would not sit flat on a flat surface. Had to hand grind the unit for proper fit.
Next time I will unbox in the parking lot to inspect before driving home.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by handyman Never again
Purchased 3 Champion 4 toilets in July of 2011. I registered all 3, which required the proof of purchase bar code off the box and sales receipt. One leaked & after a phone call they sent me repair parts. Within a few months a second developed a leak, another phone call & more parts arrived. Now the third one is leaking and the 1st. one repaired has started leaking again. Now American Standard will no longer honor the 10 year warranty unless I send them the original sales receipt, which was sent to them when the toilets were registered?
