I love this toilet but I hate the quiet-close seat that came with it. It is without a doubt THE most uncomfortable toilet I have ever sat on. It causes pain. I had the toilet installed Sunday, I am having the seat replaced tonight, Tuesday.

the new American Standard toilet is awesome, very quiet, for those middle of the night trips, uses a small amount of water, and when you close the lid it gets so far and closes on it's own. I recommend this toilet.
Now buying on for the other bathroom.

We were told by the salesman that there were two different versions in stock. One was in a plain brown box, and that had a standard seat. The second was in a white box with a fair amount of print on it and that was the quiet close seat. We chose the white box and did in fact receive the quiet close seat. I'm pretty sure he also told us that both boxes had the same number on them.

I wouldn't call it a quiet flush, but it flushes so fast that any noise is over very quickly. Remember, it's advertised to have the capacity to flush a bucket of golf balls and I believe it will. It's a very powerful but quick flush. I've never found the noise objectionable, but of course we all have different sensitivities to noise, and from years of flying USAF fighters, my hearing may have suffered.

Depends on what you means by quiet flush. Definitely quieter compare to those using more water. Since you are using less water, flush time is shorter and less noise. Its not quiet so you won't hear it but it has a lower noise level than my previous unit.

You'll get some gurgle-glug at the end of the flush, but that's a normal sound of the siphon action. One thing I noticed right away was how quietly the tank fills and the fill valve shuts off without hissing. Some have complained about water hammer, but that's not the fault of the toilet.

Answer:
I would say not. The handle must be held down for at least 3 seconds to get a full and complete flush. Too many people still have the flapper valve style toilet where one quick push down of the handle does the job. You can put a little sign next to the handle I suppose. We tell our guests to hold the handle down for 4 seconds so that they aren't embarrassed by an incomplete flush.

In a restaurant, vandalism to the tanks might swing things the other way.
A friend owned a bar/restaurant close to a ski area - had trouble with patrons punching holes in the sheet rock in the rest rooms. Solved the problem by using 3/4" plywood for wall board. So, identify your problem and address it.

Note 2: These toilets are about an inch or thereabouts taller than a standard height toilet. Great for older folks - they love 'em because it's easier to stand. But smaller children may have more of a problem getting up on them.
Note 3: I believe they are designed for a 12" rough-in. That's the distance, I believe, from the center of the floor drain pipe to the wall. The bowl is longer at the base. My toilets have only 1/2" clearance between the bowl and the baseboard. You might want to check the Champion specs and check your bathroom dimensions. Read Less

This is a quality toilet and I wouldn't hesitate installing these in your restaurant. Especially if your water is metered, just the savings on the water consumption would pay for them in no time. It's also tough to clog, as it's pathway is the largest in the industry. The height is perfect for anyone of normal height, but small children may need help.

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 696 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The reason they call it "Champion" Best toilet ever. Because I was in the process of replacing flooring, I decided it made sense to go ahead and change out toilets at the same time. I replaced three old 5 gpf toilets with a a Champion 4 Max, an H2Optimum, and a Cadet 3 Powerwash. The Cadet 3 is very good, the H2Optimum better, and the Champion 4 is best. I highly recommend it. If I had it to do over, I would have bought 3 Champion 4s. It doesn't clog, it has a great seat, and it virtually cleans itself. I installed all of them myself with no problems. Photo below, but I'm pretty sure no one wants to see it in action. Anyone who does needs therapy. August 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Tank cracked in less than a month. Bought an elongated bowl. Got home and base was cracked. Returned to HD. Employee switched out and mistakenly gave us a round bowl. Husband installed while I was not home. Looked at toilet and realized they had given us the wrong replacement. Spoke with HD management who refunded difference in price plus an additional $50. Less than a month later the tank is cracked from the handle all the way down the front of the tank, flooding the bathroom floor. Not happy American Standard. September 13, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Tank cracked after 3 months I bought 2 of these on a strong recommendation from an employee at HD, and had them installed by a plumber. They mostly seemed to work ok, although sometimes the flush was so fast it didn't carry everything with it. Also, if paper is not completely in the water it does not always go down. Otherwise they seemed ok until this morning, when after a flush I heard water dripping into a trash can that was underneath. It didn't take long to see a long crack in the tank where water was coming out. Now I will find out how good the warranty service is from AS. August 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Chintzy product Bought this to replace an old American Standard in our guest bathroom. Just installed today, many of the pieces are cheap, break easily. Already had to replace two pieces and the tank is wobbly even though the bolts were torqued down thoroughly. Lid and seat are made of cheap, thin plastic. Disappointed in my purchase. My Kohler Wellworth that I installed a little over a year ago is a much better product for far less money. I'd recommend going that route if you're buying something from Home Depot, or just sinking the extra money on a Drake or Toto from a plumbing supply store if it's in your budget. August 1, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Be ready to hold the handle down for this toilet to flush completely We bought this toilet a year ago as part of the bathroom remodel. The advertisement made it look like a perfect choice. The problem is that you must hold the handle down to flush the toilet completely, even for urine. This leads to a problem with children and guests who don't know to hold the handle down. They should use the "no slam" technology from the lid, on the handle, so the handle doesn't return to the closed position so fast, allowing the plunger to stay open longer. The good news is that is has never clogged, the bad news is the bowl does not clean it self as advertised. It is a constant effort to keep it free of sold material that has stuck to the side of the bowl. I would expect better from all the hype! August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It does the job well. I purchased this unit for it's flushing ability and have been very pleased. In the past I have clogged toilets from coast to coast. This one has never even given a sound or a sign of clogging when getting rid of a "job" in about a month. It looks good, sounds good and even seems to remove any residue. The chair height is perfect for me although my 2 yr. old grandson has a slight problem mounting it. All in all you can't go wrong with this product. Worth the extra few dollars it may cost you. It was also very easy to install if you have the ability to hold it while setting it in place. Yes I will buy another one for guest bathroom. October 23, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by A tale of 2 cities. After installation, no problems. But In less than 6 months, the tank cracked, causing a leak. I'm not convinced this is an isolated problem. Luckily these are warranted for 10 years (but not the labor). Unfortunately, you have to have your receipt for proof of purchase, which makes no sense to me. But fortunately, Home Depot keeps your credit card receipts for 6 months, so I was able to get the receipt for American Standard to send the replacement. Unfortunately, it took about 2 weeks to get to me and had my bathroom out of commission. But the install was easy, and there are no problems....yet. October 29, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Avoid like the plague Purchased this toilet 3 years ago and it has been nothing but problems. Seems to be an issue with the mold it was made from. American Standard should know me by name since I have to call frequently for new gaskets/ parts/ etc... Again, I am getting a new toilet now, after only 3 years, because this one does not meet my standard, and should not meet American Standard's either. Main problem is water that leaks from tank into toilet and the seal has to be changed about every year. Toilet was professionally installed. I was just recommended by installer to purchase a different toilet by a different manufacturer by the installer. Only 3 years old. October 12, 2016
