Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by tbrent This toilet can't flush its own water.
I thought at this price it would be a good toilet. I WAS WRONG. It can't even clear the bowl of the water it uses to flush itself with. I called American Standard and they told me it did not have a strong flush. I'm not sure why you would make a toilet that does not flush but they do. I purchased the matching sink that looks great. The sink drains better than the toilet so I guess I should buy a step stool. If the rating had something less than one star I would have given it less!!!!
This is the first review I have ever written so you know this toilet is JUNK!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MoneypitOwner Excellent Reto Toilet-Ignore bad reviews
I bought this toilet despite the negative reviews due to the vintage look my wife craved. She likes old stuff. Must be why she married me;) This toilet really, really looks reto cool, if your into that. Very nicely made, with a high-quality seat, nice chrome Handle with porcelin insert.
We also bought the Matching Standard collection pedestal sink. The flush is very good, much, much better than the 1961 standard I replaced, even though the tank is much smaller. I never need a second flush.
As far as the poor flush reviews, I am almost certain that THE OTHER POSTERS DID NOT ADJUST THE CHAIN ON THE FLAPPER VALVE. IT"S RECCOMENDED IN THE MANUAL>SLACK IN CHAIN WILL RESULT IN A WEAK FLUSH. I know beacuse I skipped that step too, with the same result. Not trying to be rude, but I hate to see a really good product get unfairly "slammed". The water level should also be checked and adjusted if required, although I didn't need to. I gave the Standard 4 stars instead of five beacuse the seat hinge is cheap plastic instead of a proper vintage chrome bar-type. That can be swapped out for about $15 bucks. I'm going to try to find a real porcelin cover for the floor mounting bolts to replace the plastic ones that came with the toilet. Do check your wall to mount-bolt clearence, mine was VERY tight. Good Luck!

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by jsupko8593 Standard Collection toilet high price low quality
I also purchased the toilet and matching pedestal sink in 2006. The toilet has never flushed the first time. I have replaced the fill valve, replaced the flush valve to one that allows more water in the tank(adjustable height tube) with a flapper with internal styrofoam for longer flush, changed the wax ring to the type without the plastic center(greater open area), changed the shut off valve from 1/4 turn to several turns, increased the water pressure in the house. I spoke to American Standard they sent me a new bowl, said mine had an internal leak. New bowl, same problem. I have been messing with this thing for 6 years trying to save it because it matches the sink. Today I installed a another brand toilet, probelm solved.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by bockrock Looks great
Remodeling a 1927 English style Tudor. This toilet looks great and is flushing effectively. "Right Height" is a nice feature. I also like how the toilet is not excessively loud, the flush is "normal" sounding and the tank is refilled in a short amount of time. This works well as it does not wake everyone in the house when it is flushed at night time.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Roostriz Pretty but pretty useless
I purchased this toilet with the sink in the standard collection for my 1927 Dutch Colonial. It is a nice looking period toilet but it is not very functional. The flush is very weak regularly requiring multiple flushes to clear the water in the bowl with no solid waste or paper. Over the past two years I have plunged this unit more than every other toilet in my life combined. Luckily it is in our second story bathroom and we have a second one downstairs with an inexpensive glacier bay model that never clogs. Do yourself a favor and find another model.
As an aside, the sink and facuets are great!!!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TNSS This is beautiful toilet, but you have to buy another flapper!
This is the most beautiful toilet, but the flapper does not work. I was very frustrated bc I could not get it to flush and I was always having to plunge it. I had the flapper replaced and now it works perfectly. I need another toilet for a newly added bath, but I am torn about buying this one again bc I know that I'm probably going to have to replace the flapper. Unfortunately, I can't find another toilet that looks as good, so I'll probably end up buying this one again, bad flapper and all.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Illinois Doesn't flush right
i have to agree with the majority of the writers here: looks very cool, flushes insufficiently. I've probably spent twice what I paid for it on plumbers, who are all stumped. Something went wrong with the engineering, my guess.

We bought the entire Standard package for a full bathroom remodel in our 1910 house, looking to match an existing claw foot tub. There was an initial problem with the toilet, however, with difficult flushing, etc, as others have stated. We had the plumber pull it out, reorder, and install another one. Since then, no problems at all. This still is the best-looking period-appropriate set I've ever seen, and we're very happy with it.
