Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bryan Walker over the rim drain with inadequate instructions
Don't know which way is up or which side of the gasket faces which way because some person wrote instructions that are not adequate. Great tub, but leaks in drains led to mold that is now costing me thousands. American standard is not quality products, I will never buy their products again.

It's a lot of money for a bunch of plastic, but was the only choice for the tub we purchased. It works well and looks good.

Bought the drain because it was instock, and the tub indicated that only two drains fit.
Found out later that 1599205.020 exists, which is brass tubing instead of this one's plastic.
My drain also did not hold water, even after adjusting the internal screw. Apparently, the gaskets (mine comes with two) were not assembled in the correct order. By putting the small gasket on the bottom, and the large gasket on the top, I was able to make the drain seal. It doesn't look right (The large gasket floats around a bit), but it has help water every time I've used the stopper.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by iceflower Very poor quality drain!!!!
I remodeled my bathroom. I bought a bath tub that must be installed with particular drain type. It lasted for one year. My neighbor complained that they had water damage on the bathroom ceiling from my drain site. I had to replace new plastic drain and pay all plumber expenses and damage to the unit below. It worked for another year. The problem occurred again. The company sent me the metal drain. This is going to be the drain #3. I’m so frustrated with my choice and will never buy any products from American standard. Very poor quality, not reliable at all.

Standing in front of this item, looking down at it on the sales rack got me thinking that it is terribly overpriced. That's probably because just like the Jacuzzi/Jet Tubs that require these, sales are probably few and far in between when compared to standard tubs, hence the higher price to pay for the floor/shelf space.
I happen to be handy with small household plumbing work (replacing the toilet, faucet, etc.), so with those few skills, I felt confident I could find the parts I needed to make this work. Turns out, just a few steps away were several PVC tub drain kits with all the necessary parts: drain shoe & stopper, overflow elbow & super thick rubber gasket and overflow cover plate. I picked the one with the push to open, push to close drain, SKU#213357. The only other item needed to complete the adaption was 1-1/2 PVC, which is available in 3-foot lengths for a few dollars. Of course, one should also have handy the tools needed to cut PVC, "Purple Primer" to prep the surfaces for gluing and of course the PVC glue to put the fittings together.
There was just one other thing to consider for my particular installation: after the plumber ran the drain line through the floor, I discovered the toilet was 2-inches too close to the tub to meet building code, so I moved the tub over 2 inches. Problem was, the drain pipe was no longer aligned to the overflow opening, so a standard kit, even the expensive one would not do. The solution was to use a pair of 45 degree elbows to compensate (see pictures). That being said, the total cost without the 45-degree elbows, was $35.82. Call it a night!

Enjoying deep soaking in the tubknowing that the top drain is preventing water spillage.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by SullyN82 Product looks really nice in the tub
This was a fairly easy installation. I actually had to replace the drain trap to fit this particular piece. Ce La Vie...everything turned out really well.
My only gripe and not a big one at all. The bottom stopper sits close to the drain opening. The drainage is good with the shower, it is a little slow when the faucet itself is running.
