Customer Questions & Answers

What would be the symptom if this were bad?

I have an American Standard Reliant single-handle faucet and it is leaking from the top of the cylindrical base of the spout. I replaced the cartridge and the problem persists. the faucet and the handspray still function normally. The whole thing was installed about 2 years ago and has been used daily since then. I ordered a "disc with seals kit" and a "spout seal kit", though both of those appear to be in good condition on the existing faucet. Sadly, the diverter is no longer available for order through Home Depot. Could a bad diverter cause a leak between the spout and the disc?
Asked by: LSBLeakey
The diverter was not the issue, so I wouldn't worry about replacing that. The two seal kits fixed the leaking problem for the most part. Unfortunately, I think the problem is inherent in the design. If I move the faucet from one side of the other too quickly or too often, I can still cause it to leak, though not as much as before, and that is with all new "guts" in the faucet. I don't expect it the seals to last more than a year or two of daily usage. The seals are cheap enough to replace, but I think I'll be keeping my eyes open for a good deal on a whole new kitchen faucet. The trouble with that is the wife will say, "might as well get a new sink,too...and we can't get a new sink with those old countertops...and we'll need to cabinets to go with the countertops. Also, these appliances are starting to show their age." The seals are definitely cheaper.

When I remodeled my kitchen I replaced the faucet with Am Std Connoisseur 4400 series. Is that particular faucet obsolete? I need to replace the diverter 042850-0070A. Is that part still available? Thanks David

Asked by: dave123
The 4400 has been discontinued but parts are still available. You may contact customer service at 1-800-442-1902 to order parts.

am trying to replace diverter in american standard, jasmine 3821. I can't unscrew the body surrounding the valve. I removed the handle, escutcheon, 3 screws, cap holder, cartridge,  was told I can unscrew the body to get to the diverter. but can't do it.

It may be corroded on. Please take some white vinegar and run it around the edge of the base and let it soak in.
