Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by kjGAgirl HUGE BEAUTIFUL TUB
Bought this tub when remodeling our master bath to replace an existing corner tub. The minimal wall measurements you truly need are 66" x 66" to have room to build the surround you need for this tub. In other words, if you don't have 66" in both direction from the corner where you're going to install this tub, then it will not work for you!
We already knew going into this project that this tub was bigger than our existing 60" x 60" corner tub. We wound up having to move our closet door down a foot and remove our double sink vanity and build a new one. If you're doing this yourself, count on it taking a while. This is no easy project.
We paid for home shipping - it was worth the extra $50! The tub arrived in perfect condition. It is heavy, but nothing two people can't handle. you get a cardboard template in the box with the tub. The template has little notches that are perforated around its perimeter. You want your surround to come no further under the tub lip than the inner part of those notches. You need the rest of the space to get the tub in the surround and allow for the motor, piping, etc.
For the tub base we used blocks and spray foam. Once you build your surround and set your tub in place, you use pavers to get within an inch or so of the bottom of the tub. You then fill the tub with water to weight it down and spray foam between the blocks and the bottom of the tub. Wait 24 hours for the foam to set hard, then let out your water. The tub is set, has a sturdy base and you didn't have to kill yourself with mortar!
We skirted our surround with 3/4" v-notch pine. It helps tremendously with the noise from the pump and looks beautiful. Be sure and leave the required opening for service so as not to void your warranty.
We still have several days work to finish our bathroom remodel, but attached is a photo of where we are so far with the tub. It is all hooked up and operational and is wonderful! The jets are very powerful and work great to soothe sore muscles after days on end of DIY!!!! Again, the distance from the corner to the outside edge of the surround in our pic is 66 inches. Hope this helps folks who may think about order this tub based on the dimensions in the description as they are inaccurate when planning on whether or not this tub will fit in your bathroom.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stoney Our favorite whirlpool tub
We have built several of our own homes, and have had 3 of these whirlpool tubs. They require some knowledge of carpentry/plumbing to install these tubs. For ease of entry and exit, we recommend that a grab bar and step be installed beside the tub. We have always purchased the inline heater to keep the water at a nice constant temperature. They are wonderful to help you relax and unwind. We will not build a home without one now.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by AuntAnnie Template Easily Available From American Standard
Just bought this tub, too soon for a real review; but I too had a hard time finding someone in the store who could give me good detail. But in a store with so many items, I think it's asking a lot to expect detailed expertise on every item. TRY THIS...I went to the American Standard website and called them with my questions. They answered immediately, knew this product inside out AND sent me a cardboard template which arrived in two days! Laid it out, saw exactly how it would fit in my space, and off we went. The manufacturer was GREAT! And the tub looks terrific, I can't believe HD can sell it for this price.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dave Good Luck with this one..........
Dont get fooled by the 4.5' x 4.5' dimensions. I have a space for a tub between a vanity and back wall that is 59". I did my due diligence and searched the HD site, asked an associate in the store, searched the American Standard site including online Installation Guide looking to make sure it would fit. Nowhere did it show gross dimensions, not even on the box! I ordered the tub, picked it up and took it to my project house. After opening the box and applying the template, we discovered the the 54" tub would not fit in a 59" space. The gross width is actually 66"! If this had been clearly revealed in the listing for the tub (or readily available) I wouldn't have ordered it. Now HD wants $59 to pick it up! American Standard said in essence "You bought it, it's yours! Tough!!" I feel the product was grossly misrepresented!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PaulNY Beautiful tub!!
The tub is beautiful and what's not to like about the lifetime warranty for parts and labor?.... For the couple of reviews that whine about being "tricked" by Home Depot and/or American Standard into thinking that this tub's size is misrepresented, the description AND specifications of the tub clearly state that the "required" wall size (nominal dimensions) are 54.5 inches, which they are!.... And the installed (out from) corner are somewhere around 65 or 66 inches (it's up to you or the installer how large you would like the "shelf" around the perimeter of the tub to be.) To these NEGATIVE reviewers I say stop watching the DIY Network and saying to yourself, "Hey that looks cool, I could do that!" And just call a contractor to spec out your installation for you, or simply just learn how to read "clearly" stated directions on websites! As for my tub, I'll certainly add a picture of it once I complete the finishing work, as of now, it is only installed, not "pretty" yet!
