My old spout has a threaded portion near the front of the spout. the distance from the wall to the threaded hole inside the spout is 4 1/2", it is a 3/4" threaded pipe will this work?
Asked by: Crow
This is a slip on spout, you will need a IPS (threaded) tub spout for your application.

How does a "slip-on" spout attach to the pipe and is it also easily removable? Are all tub spouts slip-on or do some of them thread onto a 1/2" male pipe thread? (I'm asking because I haven't figured out how to get the old spout off my tub.)
Asked by: TulieWill
A slip on spout will have a screw under the body that will have to be removed. An IPS spout will be threaded on.

I purchased a new Portsmouth Diverter valve Pt# 8888730.295. It pushes on and is secured with a set screw. Was this spout ever designed with an internal thread. How can I determine since I see no set screw under the spout.

Asked by: Dave Garv
The way to know for sure is it there is a small hole underneath the spout then it will be a slip on diverter spout. The IPS spout will have a threaded connection from the wall.

I have a Portsmouth trim package and need to tighten the screw that connects the handle to the valve.  How is the index cap removed in order to do this. I read that it is pushed on, but I see no easy way to remove it.

Asked by: Dave Garv
You would just need to use a nail file or tip of your fingernail to remove it. There isn't anything else that keeps it on.

The American Standard Portsmouth slip-on diverter tub spout in brushed nickel is a handsome replacement for my old leaky tub spout. The installation was remarkably easy (dummy proof) even for a DIY'er woman like me. Took no more than 15 minutes, removing the old spout, sanding the copper pipe of residues and slipping on new Portsmouth diverter spout in it's place. The Amercan Standard 5 inch slip on tub spout is solidly built and fits/blends in perfectly with current bathroom fixtures. No leaks so far when pulling diverter to initiate shower head. I would highly recommend for replacement or for new bathroom tub construction.

The Portsmouth slip-on diverter spout in brushed nickel is a great addition to any bathroom. It is very well made and has a nice weight to it. Most of what you find is cheap material covered in a plastic chrome. The Portsmouth is a very classy design that will really dress up the look of a your tub. My old diverter spout was accumulating a lot of mineral build-up and no longer giving a good seal in shower mode. Rather than going through the trouble of cleaning it up I decided to go with the Portsmouth and give the bath a fresh look. The most difficult part of the installation was removing the old spout. Once it was out of the way the Portsmouth went on with no trouble. Just slide it over the pipe coming out of the wall and tighten the set-screw. A very simple, inexpensive upgrade. I highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Install The diverter tub spout matched perfectly with the other bronze handles and shower head already installed(same brand). The installation of the diverter behind the wall was more difficult than installing the slip-on piece itself. If you are a handy DIY-er, follow the directions accordingly and you should have no problems with the install. The product itself is an excellent product.

Another nice made quality American Standard metal oil rub bronze diverter tub spout. If you can cut a pipe and turn a set screw you can do this easy job. You remove the old spout and cut and clean the copper pipe to 1 3/8 to 2 7/8 and clean all the burrs off. Its nice that they give you a flange that you slide on first and no turning the spout to attach. I turn the unit upright and tighten the set screw until snug and then rotated it down and snug it more. We are updating everything to oil rub bronze from door handles to hinges and now the bathrooms.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Item or Misrepresented Part arrived at Home Depot store; box was open when I got it. Item, a slip-on diverter tub spout, was just a shell - no slip-on fittings, no instructions and no parts list. It was useless. Couldn't return it fast enough. Whether this is an American Standard issue or Home depot, I can't say. My original negative review has not been posted and, in response, I received and email asking me to call American Standard Customer Service. After calling the 800 number in the email and waiting 15 minutes while they "tried to find the issue or the writer" of the email to me, I hung up. More wasted time on a misrepresented item...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice color Finally. A bronze color that's not black or super dark chocolate with hints of copper or red. Bought it from Homedepot.com while I was buying my Portsmouth bathroom sink faucet. It also matches my third party drawer/cabinet pulls. Cheaper than Danco or Danze (at least what I found). Hecho in Mexico, but that's better than China. Much lighter/thinner than my existing 25 year old Pfister brass tub spout. But the Pfister diverter finally failed and could not be fixed with new diverter parts. Only annoying things about the installation was my home's existing tub spout pipe nipple and limited instructions provided by American Standard. Pipe nipple was an odd length with a soldered threaded coupling, made to fit the Pfister spout. While the instructions was a small 1"x 3" sticker reminding me to clean and measure the pipe nipple. But a propane torch, 120 grit plumbers' sandcloth, elbow grease and 10 minutes of various Youtube plumbing videos, and viola. Nice tub spout.
