We have heard of several options for setting the Princeton tub to support the bottom. It is on a sub floor, cement backer board. Do we have to use cement or is there a lighter weight alternative?

Try a foam insulating product that is formulated to be enclosed. It has to dry properly since it wont have much air circulation to cure properly.

Princeton 5 ft. Left Hand Drain Bathtub in White is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 49.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The tub to buy! I had limited space in my bathroom remodel back in 2004 and I chose this model. Love it. If I had more width I would like the wider step over part so that you could store your soap, or a glass of wine ;), while in the tub. I like this so much I'm putting it into my rental apartments in the fancy neighborhood. Can't beat it for ease of install and style, and obviously durability - 2004 to 2017 and I still love it enough to buy a couple more.

I replaced an Americast bathtub from 1994, and this product is not the same. The contractor said it was much lighter than the old one. That's not bad in itself, but when you rap on the side it feels tinny, and when I took a shower in it, the floor of the tub creaked. American Standard customer service said Americast has not changed since 1994, they just use a lighter-weight insulating material. Nonetheless, I don't like this product. The old one felt solid, like cast iron. The new one doesn't.
