Customer Questions & Answers

This is second "Standard Collection" toilet for me. First one was irreparable after 5 yrs...now 5 yrs with new one and exact same problems - sluggish flush every 5-6 flushes. Gasping noise every hour or so. Tried all troubleshoots. Now what?

Asked by: Trees
If the gravity flush was fine and just recently began flowing slowly, then something is clogging either the venting or the exit path for the water. The newer 1.6 gallons per flush toilets require more ventilation to operate, whereas, their 3.5 GPF counterpart used the volume of water to flush the waste out. In order to improve the flush, so that the waste will flow out correctly, here are a few suggestions to try: 1. Be sure the refill hose from the water control device is inside the long refill tube on the flush valve. 2. Check the rim holes, by using a small nail or needle inside each hole to remove build-up or debris. 3. Snake the lines leading to that toilet. 4. Check that the venting on the roof for that toilet is open and free of debris. 5. If you have venting behind or below the toilet remove any debris.

good morning . im looking for an elongated  black toilet. Do youn have any?

Asked by: suamy
You would have to check with a local wholesaler in your area. They are the only ones that still carry the black toilets.

I have a 1.6 gpf 4100 American Standard toilet - the tank to bowl gasket on the right side of the bowl  is leaking badly - what part number would I need to replace both tank to bowl bolt/gasket systems? And, does the tool come with the kit?

Asked by: Dan43
The part number for the tank to bowl kit is 730505-0070A and does not come with a special tool.

Which toilet bowls will my Standard Collection tank fit  on to?

Asked by: PatR
It will only fit on the Standard Collection bowls that it is designed to fit on. Tanks and bowls can not be interchanged.

Standard Collection 2-piece 1.6 GPF Right Height Elongated Toilet in Linen is rated 2.6 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible flushing performance This is one of the worst flushing toilets we've ever had. I love our 1.28 gpf American Standard we have in the main bathroom, which almost never clogs, but this one is terrible. Wastes a lot of water as we often have to flush multiple times as we're using the plunger. Can't believe they're still selling this toilet. I will be replacing this one. Probably with another AS because I know they can make great toilets.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This toilet can't flush its own water. I thought at this price it would be a good toilet. I WAS WRONG. It can't even clear the bowl of the water it uses to flush itself with. I called American Standard and they told me it did not have a strong flush. I'm not sure why you would make a toilet that does not flush but they do. I purchased the matching sink that looks great. The sink drains better than the toilet so I guess I should buy a step stool. If the rating had something less than one star I would have given it less!!!! This is the first review I have ever written so you know this toilet is JUNK!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Reto Toilet-Ignore bad reviews I bought this toilet despite the negative reviews due to the vintage look my wife craved. She likes old stuff. Must be why she married me;) This toilet really, really looks reto cool, if your into that. Very nicely made, with a high-quality seat, nice chrome Handle with porcelin insert. We also bought the Matching Standard collection pedestal sink. The flush is very good, much, much better than the 1961 standard I replaced, even though the tank is much smaller. I never need a second flush. As far as the poor flush reviews, I am almost certain that THE OTHER POSTERS DID NOT ADJUST THE CHAIN ON THE FLAPPER VALVE. IT"S RECCOMENDED IN THE MANUAL>SLACK IN CHAIN WILL RESULT IN A WEAK FLUSH. I know beacuse I skipped that step too, with the same result. Not trying to be rude, but I hate to see a really good product get unfairly "slammed". The water level should also be checked and adjusted if required, although I didn't need to. I gave the Standard 4 stars instead of five beacuse the seat hinge is cheap plastic instead of a proper vintage chrome bar-type. That can be swapped out for about $15 bucks. I'm going to try to find a real porcelin cover for the floor mounting bolts to replace the plastic ones that came with the toilet. Do check your wall to mount-bolt clearence, mine was VERY tight. Good Luck!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Purchased this toilet a while back.  It had no flushing power whatsoever!  I contacted American Standard, they sent me a kit and it never worked.  It still doesn't and they are of no help.  Never will I purchase an American Standard product again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Standard Collection toilet high price low quality I also purchased the toilet and matching pedestal sink in 2006. The toilet has never flushed the first time. I have replaced the fill valve, replaced the flush valve to one that allows more water in the tank(adjustable height tube) with a flapper with internal styrofoam for longer flush, changed the wax ring to the type without the plastic center(greater open area), changed the shut off valve from 1/4 turn to several turns, increased the water pressure in the house. I spoke to American Standard they sent me a new bowl, said mine had an internal leak. New bowl, same problem. I have been messing with this thing for 6 years trying to save it because it matches the sink. Today I installed a another brand toilet, probelm solved.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love the Looks, But... I really love the retro-look of this collection however, I've never had a toilet that is as loud as this one or that requires more than one flush for anything of any substance.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pretty comes with a cost... I was so relieved to finally get on the website and see that the problems we've had all along with this toilet were not unique to us and also did not point to a larger problem (with our plumbing). If you have this toilet and are struggling with it as we did, stop wasting your time and contact American Standard!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Impossible to find replacement toilet seat EXTEEMLY Disappointed with American Standard and their lack of replacement products. One would think with a quality and trusted name as American Standard it be would easy to find replacement parts such as a toilet seat for this model. Unfortunately, this is not the case.Since I could not purchase a replacement directly from American Standard, I have spent hours online trying to find a replacement with no luck. I get that I bought this product 12 years ago, however how often do consumers replace their toilets. Eventually, parts will break and consumers will need replacements parts more then a few years after they have purchased a product from AS. I have a weber grill that is over 20 yrs old and I can get all the replacement parts I need directly from Weber. Very disappointed in American Standard.
