The guards slide under the bottom row of shingles and then clip onto the outer lip of the gutter. I have put them on I believe 5" gutters at my house and 4" gutters on my garage. I believe they are universal.

Which side goes up. The side that 'looks' like it is designed for the gutter leaves a lip that catches leaves.

The box doesn't show which way.

Does it go fine screen up or down?

placement on roof

one edge of these guards snap into the gutter and that holds them tight to the gutter. however, regarding the part that's closest to the roof, should that be tucked under the shingles or just lay on top of them. it appears a better fit to put under the shingles to help hold down that edge but that raises the shingle up off the roof so its not clear if that should be done.

Answer:
Hi Cindy. Thanks for your question. With a metal roof, we would not recommend using this type of gutter filter as it should be able to be put under the end of the metal roof. We suggest you consider our Hinged gutter guard which is made for standard "K" style gutters and sits on top of the edge of the roof.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Install Gutter Gaurds These were very easy to install. They snap right on to the gutter edge and easily fit right under the edge of the roofing. I recommend that you trim (notch) the edges so that you can overlap each piece a little. This helped make the installation seamless and much more sturdy! July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So Far, So Good... They've already been through several harsh rain storms and are doing just fine. And, during the heaviest rains, the water isn't flowing over the gutter like a waterfall; the guard is allowing enough through to allow the gutters to do their job. This fall will be the test for keeping leaves out, but so far, they are functioning great. June 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by So frustrated. Spent $100 on product, spent another $100 having it installed by someone who'd installed them for a friend (who loves hers). The water pours over the top of these. Yes some goes into the gutter, but huge drips and in some places cascades, make these really irritating. I want to take them down and get my money back, but I can't afford another $100 to have it done. June 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Tired of digging pine needles out of gutters We were tired of digging pine needles out of our gutters. As soon as you would clear them out, a big wind would come and fill them up again. And they blocked the water flow so the gutters overflowed. We needed to do something, and we looked at the various options that Home Depot and Lowes had, and decided to try these. My husband put them up easily. They tuck under the shingles and the lip of the gutter goes into a groove in the other side. You have to trim a few inches off the grooved side where they overlap. We have had them up for a few months now and so far they have been great in keeping the pine needles out. When we had snow on them, it did pile up and drip over the top a bit, and I suspect with a huge storm we may have some run-off, but even so, it is better than having the gutters completely clogged and having to clear them every month or so. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Total Junk They came in a box with no instructions and Home Depot said I could return them so I did. June 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by They snap in just right We installed these about 2 years ago on all the gutters. I wish we had these installed when the house was built. An extendable ladder worked fine and I had someone spot me! Some trimming is required when fitting them in the corners, and they do snap in well. I place them between the decking and shingles. So far they seem to be holding up quite nicely. May 18, 2016
