Customer Questions & Answers

How large are the holes?

Asked by: 10s
Although the holes are larger than some of the more expensive options, you can use a 2nd layer to make it more dense. This also adds to the rigidity of it.

Will the product work well with oak tree "flowers"?

Asked by: ontheroof
I think that will mostly go through this mesh since the holes are 1/4" wide. It will let verysmall twigs and other small stuff through. But I used a 2nd layer to make it more dense and rigid. Was no problem to install 2 layers. I wonder if the other guy who answered didn't find the pollen flowers in his gutters because maybe the rain was washing it out?

How well do you think this product would work to keep fir tree needles out of the gutter? Not sure how big the holes are..

Asked by: Micky
I have an oak at the front of the property and a fir tree at the rear. So far it has coped with both trees and the debris that falls from these trees.

The gutter I want to protect is at the edge of a metal roof.

What sort of gutter guard will work best? I don't want to have to attach the guard to the edge of the roof, only to the inside of the gutter.
Asked by: charlie
I got out my 6 ft ladder and a pair of gloves and scissors where needed. I installed my gutter leaf guard in a simi- arc and cut about an inch into the fiber to pass over the gutter nails. Hope this information helps.

I am very satisfied with the Amerimax gutter guard mesh that I purchased at and picked up at my Home Depot store. I found a very easy way to attach this product to my gutters using 3" #10 stainless steel screws, #10 stainless steel nuts, and #10 stainless steel washers that I purchased at my Home Depot store. Attached are "before", "during", and "after" pictures of this inexpensive and easy way to mount this gutter guard mesh, by inserting the screw through the support arm of the gutter before inserting the gutter guard mesh. Each support arm will require one screw, two nuts, and one washer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Least Expensive Option That Works I was able to just pop lengths of this mesh into my 5" K-style gutters without using the Gutter Guard Girders which are sold separately and won't fit in all of my gutters anyway because of roof overhang. When I easily popped it in it formed a natural arch that will shed leaves and debris and stand up to a few pounds of snow load becuase this mesh is pretty stiff unlike the competing brand. When it comes to roof ice glaciers, well, I'll see what happens (lucky, tornadoes are rare here) but if they don't hold in place I just gotta pop 'em back in. Really they just gotta keep leaves & maple seeds out 3 weeks in autumn, 2 weeks in spring. I recommend this.

After using all that was needed for my gutters I ended up with some left over. I discovered that if you cut up small square sections and place a few pieces around potted patio plants it will discourage squirrels from digging in the planters. I bought a new roll just for this purpose. I will check to see how effective this product works in the gutters as time goes on. The reason for 3 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not bad at all Before I spend 3-4K on gutter guards I decided to give this stuff a test. For <$100 I did all the gutters on my house. So far it's been working surprisingly well. I installed it to maintain the same pitch as our roof as opposed to the dome shape with the brackets. The leaves seem to blow off better that way. I'm sure that the gutters will need a cleaning at least yearly. But I can deal with that much easier than monthly as it has been. Well worth a try.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product thus far I installed this myself using the gutter guard girders. I had two sections of gutters, one was 20 feet and the other 22 feet. For the 20 foot section I used a single 20 foot section of gutter guard without cutting into smaller more workable sections as advised in the directions. It was a little more difficult this way but I am glad I did because I did not need to overlap multiple sections. For the 22 foot gutter I used 2 pieces of gutter guard each just a tad over 11 feet so they would overlap in the middle where I made sure I had 1 of the girders to support the overlap. In both sections of gutter I put the 1st girder about 1 foot from the end so the gutter guard would not sag. So far so good with this product which was highly rated in Consumer Reports. It keeps out the leaves although it seems to catch pine needles. I strongly suggest buying/using the girders to avoid sagging.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheap, but not perfect With two large trees in my backyard it seems like I'm constantly having to get up on a ladder and clean out the gutters. After comparing a number of products it seemed like this was the best value; best reviews, lowest price. I purchased these with the Gutter Guard Girders which are really needed in order for the gutter guard to have the right shape. The Gutter Guard was extremely easy to install and seems to do a good job keeping leaves out of the gutters. Unfortunately the openings in the Gutter Guard seems to be ideal size to catch the helicopters from our silver maple, so now the guard has all these little tails sticking strait up out of it that need to be cleaned out. Time to go back up the ladder.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as advertised Purchased with the gutter guard girders which made all of the installation possible. The leaves are coming down in earnest now, and seem to be on the outside of the gutters. Hopefully they will blow away! Purchased because CR recommended and none of my neighbors had any experience with gutter guards. So far so good! It will be interesting to see how they work when it snows.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from learning how to install was the hard part I bought the gutter guards and the girders. I had read that the girders just "snap in" to the gutters. That didn't work for me. So I used a drill to drill a hole in the girders and then screwed them to the fascia of the house. That made them good and sturdy. It took me a while to figure out how to stretch the guards over the clips, but after the third or fourth one, I had a system that worked pretty well. If you are doing your entire house, I would recommend that you order an extra set of the girders. One pack of girders is supposed to be enough to do one roll of gutter guards, but if you end up cutting the gutter guards (our gutters are not in one long unbroken stretch), you end up using extra girders to make sure the ends are supported. We put the guards up before pollen season. They've done a good job of keeping pollen sausages out of the gutters.
