Answer:
Although the holes are larger than some of the more expensive options, you can use a 2nd layer to make it more dense. This also adds to the rigidity of it.

I think that will mostly go through this mesh since the holes are 1/4" wide. It will let verysmall twigs and other small stuff through. But I used a 2nd layer to make it more dense and rigid. Was no problem to install 2 layers.
I wonder if the other guy who answered didn't find the pollen flowers in his gutters because maybe the rain was washing it out?

I have an oak at the front of the property and a fir tree at the rear. So far it has coped with both trees and the debris that falls from these trees.

Hi Micky. Thanks for your question. For fir tree needles, you would probably be better served by using one of our snap-in gutter guards with a filter. You can check our Model # 86270BX 3 ft. White Snap-In Filter Gutter Guard on the HomeDepot.com website.

What sort of gutter guard will work best? I don't want to have to attach the guard to the edge of the roof, only to the inside of the gutter.

I got out my 6 ft ladder and a pair of gloves and scissors where needed. I installed my gutter leaf guard in a simi- arc and cut about an inch into the fiber to pass over the gutter nails. Hope this information helps.

Answer:
You are just fine, this mesh goes INSIDE the gutter, and is not anchored in any way. The mesh is bowed over the gutter. parking any leaves or other flotsam behind or on top, allowing the wind to clear them away.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 49 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy install. I just installed this mesh a few minutes ago, so I can't speak of it's leaf-guarding function. But just wanted to say it was super easy to install. Just tuck it under the front lip of the gutter and arch it so you can tuck it under the shingles. I used 2 layers of it to make it more dense and rigid. I get tiny twigs on my roof and they could fit through the holes of a single layer, but less so through a double layer. I didn't use the arch things that they sell to go with this. Don't think I'll need them. I don't know why you have to order this instead of being stocked in HD. It's on the shelves at the "other place." May 31, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good for leaves, but not dirt and berries. This product would work great if all you were cleaning out of your gutters was leaves. But after my gutter cleaning adventure, I realized that I was dealing with mostly dirt and berries. So, I do not recommend it if your have more than leaves in your gutter! But, not to be negative Nancy, I found an alternative use for this product. Here in S. FLA we have iguanas that come into my yard and destroy my plants. Some of the fencing has spaces where the posts are so they can slip thru, so to keep them from getting in I used this mesh to fill the spaces. It works better as it is more durable than screening and I was able to use staple gun! September 30, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product But Complicated Process To Order Through Home Depot The plastic roll gutter guard is a good solution to covering gutters. It goes on quickly, has a large percentage of open area and is inexpensive. The plastic does become brittle after a few years. The main problem was the complicated arcane process to place an order with Home Depot. The on-line order did not work and the in-store system would make Machiavelli proud. June 8, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by protects plants from squirrels, too! I use this in planters and the garden to keep squirrels from digging up new plants. Just cut to fit and use garden prongs or chopsticks to hold in place. May 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does what it is supposed to do......guards your gutters from leaves and the like. Bought this product to stop my gutters from getting blocked from falling leaves from a prolific oak tree. My gutters got blocked with fallen leaves, and the gutters didn't function as they should. So I put these on and my gutters have been kept clear. There is still a bit of a build up of leaves on top of the guard, but water is draining into the gutters and down the down pipe, so I think it is doing its job. I used this product in conjunction with the girders , and found that it works really well. The down side were the screws supplied, a bit on the short side for my situation, but easily remedied by buying longer screws. So not a hassle. I guess they can only supply for Mr Average Situation. I followed the instructions but found that fitting the girders to the guard whilst on top of a ladder was making life awkward, so I would recommend fitting your girders to the guard whilst on terra firma, you can roll out the guard flat then fit the girders, that way you can space the girders apart to where you want them. It was then a simple matter of taking the length, up the ladder and attaching the girders to my gutter as I traversed along. I would also purchase an additional set of girders, nothing worse that running out of the things. If you don't use a whole pack you could always return them to HD for a partial refund. April 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy job for me. All is good. I have installed 4 rolls around the guttering . Was an easy job , but not able to use the Gutter Girders because of how the rock guard covers the edge of the gutters. March 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Least Expensive Option That Works I was able to just pop lengths of this mesh into my 5" K-style gutters without using the Gutter Guard Girders which are sold separately and won't fit in all of my gutters anyway because of roof overhang. When I easily popped it in it formed a natural arch that will shed leaves and debris and stand up to a few pounds of snow load becuase this mesh is pretty stiff unlike the competing brand. When it comes to roof ice glaciers, well, I'll see what happens (lucky, tornadoes are rare here) but if they don't hold in place I just gotta pop 'em back in. Really they just gotta keep leaves & maple seeds out 3 weeks in autumn, 2 weeks in spring. I recommend this. October 1, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install and no worry on its width I just lifted shingles up and insert this prastic guard in and let another edge inside of gutter channel. No need to worry on its width and of course I cut the length to fit with my gutter. February 10, 2016
