This is a decent spading fork. In my opinion, it's good for turning soil or composting. Unfortunately, I'm not comfortable using it to pry somewhat rooted soil because when I tried, the plastic handle creaked. I felt like the handle could possibly break off with too much pressure. The plastic handle is riveted, but a metal handle would make this tool much stronger. It does however come with a 15 year warranty. The rest of the tool (the wooden handle and forged forks) seems solid though. Overall, good for light gardening work.

Needed to replace my tine fork because this was another item that disappeared from my garage. Getting my plants into the ground over the Memorial Day holiday was very labor intensive without shovels or the fork. Digging holes big enough to accommodate a 1 gallon container with a hoe borders on the ridiculous. So I am extremely happy to now have this great fork to complete my planting. I love this fork and I do recommend.

The Ames 4-tine spading fork is just what we needed for our garden space to prep the garden for planting and for digging up grass and weeds, even in hard to dig areas. The forks are made of strong steel and don't bend out of alignment as other forks have. I like the bright green handle and accents that make it very east to see anywhere in the garden or yard. I expect to get years of good service from it as I have from other Ames products.

I use this spading fork in my square foot garden to help turn the soil, dig out old roots when it is time to clean up the garden bed and to get under the root system of potatoes, onions and shallots to dig them up at harvest time.
I have found the fork to be very well made. The green plastic handle is very sturdy but light weight, making it an easy task to pull up old roots. In my area of the country, we have two growing cycles: one in spring until it gets too hot, and then later, early fall when the heat of summer subsides until the first frost. I have already used this garden fork to clean out my spring beds in preparation for the next round of crops in a couple of months.
The tongs are strong and well spaced, making it a quick effort to dig out all the roots in a 4 x 4 foot raised bed in minutes.
I own other shovels and rakes from this company have I have been very pleased by the quality of all of those tools. They are all sturdy and can easily handle tough jobs for years.

I used this spading fork for turning up soil in a new raised garden and to help move dirt chunks. I can see it being useful for mulch. The handle is comfortable and the kids told me they think the wood shaft was pretty and they like the green color. I have not used it to take on the tough rocky soil in my yard but I'm not sure its the right tool for that anyway. For what I need it for, its great.
